That's true, but it was also because of a bad PI penalty on a bomb to Santonio. Not discrediting it by any means, but it wasn't an amazing march down the field. I like Sanchez's character and his ability to play extremely well for stretches during a game, but he is too inconsistent and turnover-prone. Unless he improves drastically, I don't think he's good enough to win a SB for the Jets.
I must have read his post differently. I read it as him saying that he had less than ideal size, not that he would fail because of it. Brees has had to overcome problems because of his size. Like I said, I don't put much stock in it being a big detriment, but I'm not sure the OP does either. I just feel like he either gets bashed or defended to unmerited extents on here, and the reactionary posts in response can overreact as well. I'm guilty of it too. As far as chemistry, it's certainly underappreciated. I was desperate to see Braylon signed. He and Holmes were 1a and 1b, which I know you felt too. We're certainly seeing the effect of that decision. However, when you're struggling as much as Mark is, I'm loathe to put it all up to a lack of continuity, especially in today's NFL. And I'm not sure the OP is that far off from that.
Uhhhh, the Minnesota game he was throwing in the rain (Schottenheimer brilliance!). I wouldn't expect him to have great numbers in a torrential downpour.
Before the Ravens game he WAS a more efficient passer. 90 QB Rating Two 330 yard passing games, including the highest of his career (370) A completion Percentage over 60% for the first time in his career Top 10 in passing yardage. he sucked against Balt (some of it not his fault) but that doesnt erase what he did the first three games ... including showing brass balls in the 4th Q against Oakland.
He was playing better, but he still turned the ball over too much. If he can put up those numbers and keep the INT's down, then we'll have our franchise QB. I do agree a lot with Mr. Electric. Schotty's system is incredibly awful and is limiting Sanchez's potential. We run too many timing patterns and somehow, receivers are just never open. I'd love to see Mark in a normal, competent offense.
I understand what you're saying but this is stupid. That is an accuracy issue, not a release issue. The only impact the release time has on this scenario is a defensive back jumping a route. A receiver can only adjust to the ball while a DB can react to the throwing motion. When Sanchez or any QB throws the motion is ingrained in the sense that they put the ball where they expect the receiver to be. Throwing motion, speed of the throw, trajectory, and angle are all part of this. He's not hitting them on the back shoulder/behind them because he's misjudging his release time that he's had his entire life. He's just not accurately putting the football in the ideal location for the receiver. Working to shorten his release time would probably reduce his margin of error but I think it has most to due with chemistry between himself and the wide-outs. This is more due to timing and accuracy. Best way to fix that is time -- getting on the same page with his revolving door of receiver talent.
New here, but let me start by saying Sanchez is my favorite player. However i understand he is not perfect. I dont think his height is a flaw. however d-linemen are getting taller and taller. I think the balls knocked down at the line is more about the routes being run than his height. The ones knocked down seem to me like defenses have his drop backs scouted and on the short drops the linemen just put their hands up. I have a hard time seeing the arm length being a flaw. I think his release is normal. Not slow but not fast. He does struggle with short throws, but the quick slant to mostly holmes but bray as well was argueable his most dangerous pass. That i have a hard time explaining. I think his biggest flaw is recognizing defenses consistantly. This is stoping him from taking the next step in his development. I also think a flaw is the play calling and even worse the play designs. Like the pick 6 against the ravens this past week. We just get a turnover and the shotty calls a PLAY ACTION pass to the flat on the opposite side. What is the point? Do a PA and attack the second level behind linebackers over committing or beating DB's over the top. Why do a PA to throw the ball to the flat???? He is best when he, and the offense, gets in a rythem.
This thread is a really good idea, so if you're here to piss on it, go away. You clearly don't have what it takes to discuss the QB position. I've always seen his slightly longer delivery, and it hasn't bothered me as long as the Jets play the vertical game. There can't be one, because his OL is reminiscent of 2005 right now. With Mangold back, they will improve greatly. The whole team will. Sanchez does have an issue throwing to his left. I doesn't help to have the plays where 3 WRs are on the left side from the hash to the sideline when he has difficulty throwing passes to that side. Twice I've seen the exact same play get 2 INTs. One was the Pats game in 09, the other was the Jags this season in week 2. The middle of the field is used at times, but not enough. I agree with E too. Continuity has not been there at all. Its been 1 year fixes and its stupid. What I will say about his back shoulder timing thows is that he wasn't doing it to Braylon once they got chemistry. That tells me its timing. That can be blamed on the lockout. Plax didn't come in till late, and then he was hurt. We can see that the chemistry isn't there yet. That's where the running game should come in, but the running game took a backseat in fucking TC because the CS made the decision to become more of a passing offense. Fucking Bob Sutton thought that it was a good idea to stray away from the identity of this team. Bob Sutton needs to go due to that reason. How you fucking stray away from the running game, a decision made before September, pisses me the fuck off. If no one believes me, look up the article. I think it was Slauson who said it. They didn't focus on the running game once they hit TC, they wanted to become more of a passing team. No, this is a team that uses the run to build up the passing game. Why deviate from who you are? Goodbye Bob Sutton, I won't miss you and your refusal to be what the Jets should be. You are Mangini finesse, not Rex Ryan brutality. Go be a QB coach again, you are good at that. Or go to the college ranks. I've seen him makes slant throws, so he can do it. He just needs more time with his WR. Not only is his release, but his stride is long too. So with that windup, he needs to have most of his throws be 12-17 yards at the point of reception by his target. He also needs passes that generate YAC. Something he barely gets from Schotty's calls.
last year how many balls where thrown to recievers and hit defenders in the chest or dropped ints....it was like god was a Jets fan last year
santonio told dat man dat his arms were sloppy short! sanchize then asked: y u gotta nitpick, tone?! gat dayum!
I actually took the time to read the OP and it's a viable thread with some good points, but to act like long arms is a disadvantage as an athlete is still ridiculous.
If he was putting up those numbers with less INT he'd be an elite QB bro montana That's too much to ask for under schittenheimer
It's fair to say Sanchez has some flaws as a QB - that I can accept. Thus he will work in some system well while not so much in other. Now whether the offense is maximizing Sanchez's talent or not is an entirely different question (and I think that is much more relevant to the offensive performance than this thread.)
Sanchez takes a long stride in his throw, he needs really good protection to have the room to do it. When he does he is very accurate, but the downside to it is even a little pressure that doesn't allow him to take the time and room he needs fucks him up, which makes me happy that he can scramble. All in all the o-line is at the top of the list as to why this offense is sucking at this moment in time. Overall in the grand scheme of things as was said already in this thread, it is the play calling and lack of continuity.
