RIght on them. The spread is only circumstantially based on how good the teams are, and much more on keeping the money even on both sides of the bet.
Mayo, Hernandez, and Vollmer are the major ones right now, but overall the Patriots have been fairly healthy. The secondary has been a little patchwork, which hasn't helped their inability to stop the pass. Ras-I Dowling was the week one starter opposite McCourty and has not played since. Leigh Bodden has missed time. They didn't have Patrick Chung for the Bills game. They've also lost a few guys on the defensive line (not big names, but guys who were expected to contribute... Myron Pryor and Mike Wright in particular, but should get two other guys - Brandon Deaderick and Ron Brace - back after they're off PUP). Which, I think, has forced Belichick to shift his strategy from a more attacking-type defense to a "safer" defense with a lot of zone. I'm hoping Haynesworth is back this week. Mangold can't block two guys at once and if Haynesworth can at least tie up some blockers, Wilfork could potentially have a field day. Don't forget the Pats also lost their starting center (Dan Koppen) with a broken leg. Of course not, and I do realize Mangold was a huge loss against Baltimore. Don't get me wrong, I was just giving you a little crap, that's all. (Normally I'd deploy the friendly emoticon here, but I know how much you hate that.)
Win or lose this weekend the season is far from done. The rest of the schedule is much easier for the Jets. They will have a tough time winning the division if they lose, but that's about it.
Spikes came off of injury the previous game. He played well as a rookie last year. Maybe he'll be able to contribute more as this year goes along. I don't get the thing with Mayo at all. He was talked up as an edge rushing OLB in the 4-3 and has recently been playing MLB. There was some talk also about Fletcher doing well in preseason. He may be the backup signal caller so he will be playing a lot while Mayo is out. The whole defense has been discombobulated all year. Every week there are big pieces missing and the transition to playing more 4-3 seems to be ineffective. Not having an DC to help sort this out is a big mistake. Bill needs to work with both the offense and defense - his analysis skills are a critical part of his talent and are useful to both offense and defense.
Spikes played pretty well last week. He's excellent against the run but remains a major liability in coverage. Just too slow.
I think it may possibly be a breakout week for Plaxico (if we can protect the QB long enough to make a throw). He's a matchup problem. But if they double team him to shut him down it's going to leave more opportunities for the other receivers. It might be a good idea to check who Arrington is covering before every snap. Throw to that guy.
Haynesworth and Hernandez in full pads today, as well as Mike Wright. Mayo is out and I think Dowling is still out.
Yeah, I was going to say something about it, but figured why bother. Rather just focus on the football stuff.
Wasn't much of a factor the first 3 games, but played very well last week. BTW- some bad news for Jet fans. Hernandez, Haynesworth, and MIke Wright, all practiced today, which was the Pats lone padded practice. Boddin, and Dowling both practiced for the 2nd day. That's an infusion of 5 key players for this game. While I doubt it will mean a quantum leap of improvement for the defense, adding those 4 guys sure will help. And having Hernandez back not only adds another serious threat, it add a lot of formation flexibility to the Pats arsenal. And having Hernandez and Gronk on the field at the same time won't hurt the run game
I hate your team and wish nothing but ill on them, but I still have love for Spikes from his Florida days. Was SO PISSED when you guys got him and Hernandez. Two really good football players.
Question --> Are we going int othis game with a 52 man roster? DOn't remember anyone being brought up to take BTs place...
While I think he's a legitimate Red Zone threat. In the middle of the field, he's a lot less of a threat than Edwards was, because he's never going to threaten to stretch the field. You can put a LB on him and he wouldn't get behind them Plex will get some catches in front of the Pats zone, but Holmes is still the impact guy, and if I had to rate the importance of impact in the Jets passing game, it would go 1. Keller 2. LT 3. Holmes Those would be the 3 guys I's prioritize.....qnd so will BB 100 and 30 are the key numbers. The Jets have to rush for 100+ to keep to shorten the game and keep Brady off the field. If they do, they will be in the game all the way 30- You don't want Sanchez to have to throw more than 30 passes. It exposes him too much to the rush of other teams. It gives him too many opportunities to make the big mistake. And finally, if he has to throw more than 30 passes, it will likely mean the Jets are playing from behind.
