Woodson is a completely different style of player. Did you just come to this thread to start shit or what?
the big difference is that revis not only can tackle but he really looks to make tackles in the running game, he is the most complete corner i have ever seen. in todays nfl where the receivers cant be touched this man is putting on one of the most amazing shows i have ever seen. it is an honor to watch him snuff out an entire side of the field every week. the shame is that when he is doing amazing things nobody really realizes it.
By the time his career is over he could be the best. We'll have to wait and see. I'm hoping he's not playing to form this sunday:grin:
I don't think saying Rod Woodson and Deion Sanders are better than Revis is "starting shit"...it's not like he's calling Devin McCourty better like some dumb Pats fans last year. Those are 2 of the best players of all time, being compared to a player in his 5th year, it's just nice to have them in the same conversation as Revis.
I find it hard to determine that. Wide receivers these days are different. They are bigger and more physical than I remember in the 80s and 90s. Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall, just to name some of the beasts Revis blanked. This is also a more pass-focused league, making Revis that much more important on the field. Deion was an animal though, and he also had great speed and return skills, something Revis does not have.
Don't forget the rules Revis plays under are more prohibitive than what Deion and Woodson and whoever else faced in the 80's and 90's. Now you can't even sneeze near a WR or you get called for a penalty.. yet Revis still dominates and shuts them down. Can not overlook that.
I was responding to the statement that Revis is the best he's seen. I thought we were discussing football.
You should probably check out Revis's return skills from college. He would be the best returner on the Jets right now BY FAR, but they don't want to risk him in that role. Can't say I blame them.. but Revis most certainly does have great speed and return ability. Perhaps not as good as Deion, but there are things he does better than Deion as well.
A good point. It's always difficult to compare players from different times. For the record, I like Revis. He's elite and is without question the best CB playing.
I said he's as good a corner as I have ever seen and that Deion is the only one at that level. But I wouldn't say the Deion is better nor would I put Revis ahead of Deion. I think they are the only two in my lifetime that would be considered true shut down corners.
Deion was faster, and definitely a better punt return guy. The first time I saw Deion was in a college game, Syracuse vs. Florida State. It was a punt return where Deion caught the punt and just stood there holding the ball on his hip until the coverage arrived. Then he took off and went all the way untouched. Talk about disrespecting the other guy. Deion's downside was he avoided contact. He definitely didn't like to tackle people. I haven't seen any indication of that with Revis. The thing that I think is most awesome about Revis is that he picks up the ball before the receiver does almost every time. That is clearly why he can defend the tall guys. Enjoy watching him while you can. He's one of the great ones.
I'm not disappointed at all that Nnamdi never came to New York. Eagles are getting all this hype now when in reality the best corner in the league stayed put.
I'm not sure they're using him correctly. The thought of Revis and Nnamdi both playing man coverage scared me. That said, I think the Jets resigning Crommartie was smart.
I grew up watching Neon Deon. Man was he fast. I've never seen a player run out of bounds as fast as Deon. That's one thing Deon and Lawrence Taylor had in common...they never met a white line they didn't love.
You are a good poster. Snow Wolf is much better. http://www.youtube.com/user/snowwolf776#p/a/u/0/GpDgiLw6S9Y
