Well, without Mayo, your "ground and pound" should destroy us this week. This game could get ugly. I say you win by 17. And no, I'm not kidding.
It was also a great play called (The inside trap) that had the Ravens off balance. There hasn't been enough of those plays (ie "Sucker Plays")
That at least would be a bit better than than one-and-opponents-score-a-td. We saw that twice on Sunday. Have we returned to 'any drive that ends in a kick is okay'?
I did a quick check on this. By my unofficial count the Jets had 23 first-down situations. They went run-pass on eight occasions, a 35% rate. Throw away the last four possessions where it was a pass every time in desperation mode and it was eight times out of 19 or 42%. That might not sound too bad, but consider this - the first 9 times they had a first down, they went run-pass on six occasions. That's 67%.
Considering the way line looked, didn't think they can lead any attack to success (including ground & pound). Then again Rex knows 10000% more than me & wouldn't call for it unless he felt it was possible. Maybe it's because it's less likely the O-Linemen make wrong reads or get tricked. Just blast ahead & knock somebody out of the way.
I'm thinking Rex is desperate to find a fix for the Offense without taking Schotty to the woodshed. No way in hell is any running game going to work behind a Oline as pathetic as ours. Ground & Pound is just a memory until they get the Oline fixed and all the positive vibes and wishful thinking in the world ain't gonna change that.

So NOW you want me to believe that he's going to go to a "ground and pound" style of offense against a defense whose ONE single area of strength this season as been against the run. He's going to give a RB who is a barely averaging 3 ypc MORE carries against a defense who seemingly CAN NOT defend the pass. That he is going to limit the throws his QB makes against a pass rush that has actually been WORSE than the Jets' pass rush? Yeah RIGHT THAT makes a lot of sense. What's really dumb is what an obvious ploy this is. The only thing I know for certain is that the first play the Jets are going to run when they get the ball this Sunday is a play action pass to Keller in the seam. Book it....and I'll be shocked if Sanchez doesn't throw the ball at LEAST 35 times BTW - in the unlikely event I am wrong on this, and God I hope I am, the new CBA rules aren't going to help. Normally when a HC wants to get more "ground and pound" out of his offense, he will have them put on the pads and WORK on it 3 days that week. The only way you can really implement that mentality and get the timing down is to go with Pads and hit. Now the Jets can do it on Wednesday, but Rex will only be able to talk about it the rest of the week. More pussificaton of the NFL

I'm going way out on a limb here, but my wild guess: if the Jets fall behind in the score and not having success on the ground they will throw more. If the Jets are ahead in the score and having success on the ground they will run more. Prior to the Dallas game, Rex said there is no way Cromartie would be retuning kickoffs. Cromartie took the first kickoff, and all but one after that.
We're going to run 10 personnel except instead of 4 WRs and a RB it will be 4 reserve linemen and a RB
We're facing excellent matchups for our WRs in this game, so I can't figure the emphasis today on Ground 'n Pound. Unless he figures he's tricking Belichik into thinking we'll Pound the Ground and leave his putrid secondary alone. But I've got news for Ryan... Belichik wasn't born on a pickle farm. Our best chances (if Mangold is back and our O-line can give The Annointed One some protection) is to pick apart their DBs with the likes of Holmes, Burress and Keller. Just keep on picking on them until they scream.
