Why does Schotty get all the blame and not Rex at all. Maybe if we had a head coach who knew dick about offense there would be some help.
It would be the same thing if we had an offensive HC and the DC ran everything on the defensive end. Rex needs to keep his presence felt in the offensive meetings like he used to if he's not doing it anymore. That seems to better the offense. But its time for a change. They're slowly rebelling in that locker room against Schotty.
I think Schotty takes a lot of the blame for two reasons: 1. It's his offense. The idea that Ryan is ultimately responsible for what happens there is true but Schotty is the guy who fails before Ryan becomes responsible. 2. It's pretty clear that Ryan was not given a real opportunity to bring in his own guy when he was hired. He was not a slam dunk choice for the HC position and had been turned down by his own team previously when he applied for the job. He came in to a situation where the GM was not also new and so there were loyalties already in place. He basically would have had to fight to replace Schottenheimer at that point and no new guy comes in the door fighting when he's grateful he got the job in the first place. You can argue that this is a Tannenbaum failure at this point and be on fairly solid ground. However if a change is going to be made it needs to be made at the root of the problems and the earliest root of this problem is that Ryan did not get the opportunity to hire his own OC on the way in the door. The holdover OC is failing. It's time for a change.
throw gobs of money at tom moore to take over this season and look elsewhere nextyear if moore dosent wanna return full time.
BTW, people defend Schotty by pointing out how good the Jets running game was over several years, In truth though this was not a Brian Schottenheimer innovation or achievement. The Jets post Vinny Testaverde were a very run-centric team and very good at it. Curtis Martin and Kevin Mawae were every bit as good and dominant on the ground as the Jets runningbacks and Nick Mangold have been. The only thing that has worked consistently well since Schotty got here is the thing the Jets were already invested in before he arrived after the injuries decimated the offensive line in 2005. Schotty really has not added anything at all to the Jets offense over the last 5+ years. He's just shepherded a continuation of a ball-control offense over that span and tried unsuccessfully to integrate his version of the WCO alongside it.
I don't understand, Mangini is gone and is completely out of the league after stinking it up even more with the Browns. Why is Schottenheimer still here? You might as well fire Rex and bring back Mangini, we're not going anywhere with this moron in charge of offense
I cannot believe people are in here defending Schotty. How can you watch this team, have watched this team for the last several years and defend this guy? Either you're a moron or else you're overthinking it. The offense has no creativity, no innovation, no adaptability or adjustment, no identity. My wife can call the plays before they happen. I don't know if the next guy they get will be better or worse. But Schotty is clearly not getting it done and he's had plenty of time to try. Enough already!
I've defended Schotty to death, even got taken to the woodshed over suggesting he'd be a better head coach than Rex before we got Rex but the guy is utterly washed up. This offense is as bad as any Jets offense I've ever seen in my life. They have all of these offensive gurus standing around...Callahan, Moore, Schotty and the game plan is still a complete mystery. Our identity went from Ground and Pound to absolute failure, catastrophe, and turnover machine. Maybe Tannenbaum should have looked into some Oline depth instead of coaching depth. Too many cooks in the kitchen and they're all serving up steaming piles of shit. Oline? Great job Callahan! QB fundamentals? Great job Moore! (I'm pretty sure Peyton simply made him feel like he was learning something, considering Peyton was a prodigy.) Play calling?! Schotty must taking whomever we're playing that week plus the under. I cringe every time we have the ball and I'm depending on our defense to score touchdowns 1/4th of the way into the season. I literally don't even want to see our offense on the field next week or almost ever again. Just let our defense play both sides of the ball. I'm pretty sure Pouha can hold onto the ball better than Sanchez at this point.
The Jets should pull Pennington out of the booth and stick a headset on him. Tell him he gets to fire Schotty as his first act on the coaching staff.
This is a sure-fire way to kill either Chad or Sanchez because one of them is going to have a stroke in the first few games they are paired up. Chad was the anti-Sanchez. Never take chances, minimize turnovers to the maximum extent possible. Never score 7 late when you need it but almost never throw a pick-6 either. It would be like matter and anti-matter coming together on the Jets and we all know what happens then. The end of the universe.
I'm not even going to respond to this except to say  Look, I won't complain. I never would have if they had replaced him. The problem is, I want to know who can do the job. Everyone wants Schottenheimer gone, but even at his "creative" worst, he's better than Hackett was. As I've always said, the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. The problem is, our offensive unit is not that good. We have the league's best center and pass blocker and that's it. Everyone else on our offense is replaceable. Plugging in a new OC isn't going to change that. Exactly. It's unreal how short people's memories are. I'll never forget how much I despised Hackett. I said that earlier. It would be worth it simply for me to start an "I told you so" thread. No one is ever going to admit to this. Let's be honest, if they've ignored it for this long, it's not going to change.
Ummmm. The Current OC of the Florida Gators? Charlie Weis. And you're way off on your assesment of Sanchez. He routinely comes up HUGE in big spots. We have top 10 talent on Offense at the WR position, at LT, Center, QB,Keller, and with Shonn, he's not a top 10 back but is better than middle of the pack. The clear problem, is the Coach.
I don't think you can count Plaxico and Derrick Mason in the "top 10" anymore Hobbess. Neither has the speed or the moves to get open deep anymore and most "top 10" guys are either shifty, flat out burners, or both. We have Santonio and Keller and 2 other guys who used to be "top 10" and that's all.
Plax,Holmes, Mason,Keller is as good across that front as anyone fields. Plax is 6'5, and can get open in single coverage. Holmes, Can run away from most defenders, Mason's job is to catch underneath routes, and hes one of three in NFL history in terms of consistency (60+, 750 +), we've not seen kerley yet. Those are plenty of weapons used correctly. As good as anything Brady is able to get the ball to. He was on pace for 6000 yards. Is Sanchez brady, no. Would Brady be Brady without the legacy offense they run over there, probably not.
All jokes aside, like I said, I won't cry if Schotty gets canned. It just won't fix anything. This offense suffers from a lack of talent*. Coaching is secondary. *I wrote talent, but it should be "execution" because that is the problem. Can that be fixed? I would guess it could. I just don't think it would. Especially by the QB and starting RB.
as painfull as it was to watch a paul hackett offense, he was twice the play caller shotty is... not that that says much
The connection between execution and talent is an interesting one, and no doubt there is a question regarding that connection in respect of the current squad. Talent increases the likelihood of better execution, but better execution doesn't just happen, either. By the same token poor execution tends to be associated more with lack of talent. Obviously. The current Jet squad at least raises the question whether the lack of execution is a function of there being less talent than we would like to think is on the roster. That possibility cannot be ruled out. Instead it is possible the Jets were to some extent playing over their heads the last two years. We shall see how they do this season as it progresses, and whether a higher level of talent and ability will show itself, with improved results. But I have the sinking feeling this team is going to show less promise as the season goes on. Given the high expectations for this team, it could get ugly real quick.
Paul Hackett had only one thing in mind on every play he called, moving the chains as little as possible. He wanted 5 or 6 first downs on every drive and he'd happily take a FG attempt or a punt at the end of the drive. His entire game was field position and time of possession and the Jets did an excellent job of controlling both of those against non-elite teams. Against elite defenses they were toast. Consistent burned toast.
