It's unclear if this Jet team is a playoff team. It is a 2-3 team as of next week. There is no way the Jets beat the Pats on the road. The Jets just embarrassed themselves on national TV. Maybe Joe Willie has it right: Rex should just STFU and focus on coaching. This team has no O-line, has no running game, no elite QB and is closer to the Colts chaos than the Pats.
Sanchez is very overrated. I've said it before and will say it again. Part blame goes on Sanchez for the very first fumble TD. Its a 2 step quick pass, instead he held it and got wacked in the back. He has been making horrible throws as well. Without a run game, Sanchez will continue to fail. With Schotty calling the plays, Sanchez will continue to fail. In this game, there was 1 whole TD from scrimmage. The JETS offense scored 21 points for the Ravens pretty much. Now we have to go to NE, this is shaping up to be very bad.
two afc championship games the past 2 years was our opportunity to win the super bowl. this year we're seeing some growing pains from rebuilding. we have no depth and it's killing us with this offensive line and safety's. just making back to back afc championship games was pretty amazing. to expect the trifecta is expecting too much. if this team plays well enough to make the playoffs, they've done well. going further than that is wishful thinking and the odds are against the jets. just play competitive ball for the rest of the season and see where we are when the regular season is over. this team is still competitive, but not what they were the last 2 seasons. ground and pound is how this team will win. offensive line is going to be this teams downfall this season.
Sadly, it is really difficult to reach 3 consecutive championship games. Eventually age or injuries will catch up to you. You might be right about our best chance being last year...we might have beaten last season's Packers in the SuperBowl (as is, I don't think we could beat this season's Packers.)
Well said. I felt last week that they weren't playing like a playoff team, and probably will have to get lucky to get there. The offense is really bad and can no longer overcome 1 or more turnovers from sanchez. There is just such a small margin of error right now. Any mistakes, especially against a good team, just can't be overcome by a mediocre at best offense. The D is also trending towards average. A bad game against the raiders, and an OK game last night just doesn't feel as good as it was the last 2 yrs. The only bright spot is special teams.
We are seeing the same thing here as they are seeing with the "dream team" over in Philly. You can make all the big splashes you want in free agency, but without a solid offensive line, or any depth, your team will crumble.
Another slow start Did anyone take notice of the fact that we didn't convert on 3rd down until there was 10 seconds left in the 1st quarter? 14.50 minutes of play and we finally make our 1st down. Another slow start and I'm getting real tired of this.
Unfortunately, Shotty's poor play calling and the offensive line woes will continue to detract from the fact that our QB is trash!! Period. I'm tired of hearing about this "give me the guy who led his team to 2 straight championship games, and has won X number of road playoff games" Sanchez was not the reason we got to 2 straight championship games. In fact, if we are all honest with ourselves, we might realize that Sanchez is the reason we were not division winners either time. Cam Newton is a better QB right now after 4 NFL games than Sanchez. I'm guessing he was a better QB than Sanchez before he even played an NFL game. We goofed on that guy, and he's going to set us back another 5 to 10 years. This season is not over for the Jets after just 4 games, but what has to happen from here on, is the team has to realize that their coach has been blowing smoke up their asses for sometime now, and they need to step up and start executing and stop dare I say it, shooting themselves in the foot.
I think our offense ran about 4 plays in the first quarter. A fumble return TD on the first play and a KO TD will do that to you.
I think most Jet fans realize how much the team has invested in Sanchez. A package was put together to take him as the fifth overall pick. He was picked after playing only a single season in college. The truth is it was a gamble to pick him. He's got better physical skills than Chad, but that's an awfully low bar. Neither is he a Qb with above average physical skills. Mentally? It's a mixed bag. On one hand he's played without apparent nervousness or lack of focus in some pretty big games. But he imo continues to make glaring mental errors. He doesn't seem to learn, either from experience or from the CS. Leadership. Talking the talk is not an unimportant part of being the leader, but things like throwing picks the first play after getting the ball back are corrosive in terms of leading the team. It's not hard to imagine how the players feel when that sort of thing happens. But going back to that matter of how much is invested in Sanchez. I think that realization makes some here reluctant to acknowledge that his development has been problematic. It is I think unfair to say he's not going to be able at any point to take this team to the SB. But I think it's also fair to say we should have questions about whether he will be, and what questions we had about him at the beginning of the seasons are not being answered by him with anything that inspires confidence. Putting aside all the attempts at objective analysis, I have an increasingly bad feeling about him.
quite fair assessment. My big problem is, the price that was paid for this guy. Then to turn around and say he is a work in progress. Lets excuse his constant crappy play. When we win, it's not because of him. It's in spite of him. At best, he will mature into a good game managing QB. Not a guy who will be a pro bowl guy. We can win the SB with him, we will just need to create a great team around him, starting with the defense.
That's not a big problem at all. In fact, it's fucking retarded if you actually think the Jets gave up a lot to move up for Mark Sanchez. SENT: a rotational end Kenyon Coleman an emergency QB Brett Ratliff a package safety Abram Elam a second round pick RECEIVED: a potential franchise quarterback.
"Unfortunately, Shotty's poor play calling and the offensive line woes will continue to detract from the fact that our QB is trash!" -that's hilarious
Great post. The way this team is built, Sanchez is barely going to set this franchise back if we want to cut him or bench him. We gave up practically nothing (2nd rd pick) at the opportunity to grab a franchise QB. It was a great gamble, considering what we had on the roster at the time. Sanchez is the least of my problems right now. It starts with Schotty, then the o-line, then the run game, then Sanchez IMO. Sanchez has played 3 solid games and 1 abysmal one (last night). People might bitch and moan about 'solid,' I'm not saying he played elite or anything of that nature, but he played well enough to win, which is all I care about with the defense we have.
Another key point to consider is that, Baltimore knew we were going to double team Ngata because of Baxter. So Baltimore lined Ngata up in the end spot a lot which completely negated the ease of an inside line double team. When Ngata blew up Sanchez, if you all remember, he came in from R-End.
