That in 09 we would be swept by the dolphins, lose to the bills once and only put up 7 points in a game late decemeber and STILL make it to the AFC championship with a rookie QB you'd say I'm a homer. If I told you that in 10 we would barely beat the Vikings and the dolphins by less than 10 points combined, that we had trouble beating the Lions, Browns, and Texans and had to do it late in the 4th quarter or overtime, That we were outscored by the Pats and Phins late season 58-10 and yet we STILL went to the AFC championship you'd say I was crazy. The season is not over. Yes we have been playing like shit but did you expect anything different? This team is built for January. Idc if we go 9-7 and make it in with a wildcard or go 14-2. As long as we make it, it doesn't matter because come January it's a whole new ball game just ask the Patriots
I get your point, but we had the hope of 2 much stronger lines at those times. We are declining in the key areas.
This is a pretty homerish post, but I'm not one to hate. This team does not look good at the moment, that's for sure.
How exactly are we built for January? We've run the ball like dogshit all year! That's been our calling card, and our offensive line, which is vital in January, has completely imploded!
Our oline is practically the same. Mangold is just injured. The oline isn't declining they just need to get their heads out of their ass. We are practically the same team as last year just with a younger dline.
The point is have faith. In all the situations i mentioned above you had a similar outlook on the team just in a different area/position. Just have some faith. Were the Jets things aren't allowed to be smooth sailing remember?
I get your attempt at optimism, but as much as we are all homers you have to look at the facts. The Jets looked like a JV squad out there today. The nail in the coffen was at the end of the game Collinsworth says "the ravens line was a mess before the season but they picked up Bryant Mckinne, and Gurode, who were cap casulties of the vikings and cowboys" Maybe its time to stop reaching for stars in every free agency period and look to add quality players. The injury to Rob Turner happened a week too late, regardless the FO really messed this up. Maybe we can put a call into Damien Woody!! (jk)
Our offensive line is playing like absolute shit. This isn't a situation that can be helped by a quick turnaround and having Mangold back isn't going to help as much as everyone thinks it is. Hunter is still a problem at RT and the left side hasn't exactly been stellar, either.
I understand the point you're trying to get across. It's just the Jets can't keep playing 3 road playoff games every year and expect to get to the championship that way. Last playoffs were the absolute toughest matchups in the Colts, Patriots, and Steelers. We have to try to at least win the division, the Ravens have been suffering from the same fate.
After we go 2-3 we'll beat the dolphins and chargers before the bye. I think we'll be 11-5 or 10-6 at worse
I like this thread, just proves that we've been in this same "all hope is lost" situation multiple times over the last two seasons and Rex and Co. is 2/2 (100%) in getting us out of it. It's always the worst when you're experiencing it.
True, we've been there before. Still, the problems that we're having are one step shy of "Our QB is Rick Mirer." We're not growing the way we should be. I don't think all hope is lost after two losses in the first 4 weeks but there is room for concern. Still, the only people bailing now should be the bandwagon fans. And good riddance.
I have faith in Rex, but I just don't think this team is as good as it was last year. We did get a ridiculous amount of luck in 2009 in the last 2 games, particularly the Colts game, to get in the playoffs. Last year, we were a really good team, but we didn't have the consistent enough QB play to get a bye week, and then we had a few lapses against Pittsburgh on all sides of the ball, mostly on defense, and we blew it. This year, I think the defense should be at last year's level, but the offense has taken several steps back. I think the OL will play better eventually, but if it doesn't improve soon, we're going to lose to New England, and possibly even Miami and San Diego as well. Getting to the AFCCG is great, but it's not like we went to the Super Bowl. We fell 2 games short of our ultimate goal the last 2 years. We're not a perennially dominant team, we were an above average team that made the playoffs the last 2 seasons as a wild card, then went 4-2 in the playoffs.
Can anyone tell me one area where this team has improved since last year? I don't see it on paper and I definitely don't see it on the field so far.
