Schottenheimer has until Mangold gets back to fix this. The play-calling was bland and predictable because the oline was terrible. But there's no way the offense should be playing this bad. When Mangold gets back, if it's still this bad, Schotty needs to go. It sucks for him because Tannembaum completely neglected the o-line. Slauson and Hunter are average at best. Moore has been on the decline, and after a hip surgery, he needed to be replaced. Not to mention Sanchez is still making bad decisions and playing scared because of how bad the o-line is. You still need to get around all that. At least get rid of the sloppiness. Get rid of the penalties and make sure the players know the plays. Schotty has till Mangold gets back to fix this.
fine, discounting this game and even this season, what's the excuse for every other season he has been here? First it was Pennington's injuries. then it was Favre's injury. then it's the offensive line's injury. he must be the unluckiest coordinator on earth. he should be fired just for the fact that he must be the injury bug itself.
Mangold has been in the Jets lineup for 5+ years and it never meant Shittenheimer was able to put together and elite defense. Yes his absence hurts, but it's not the sole reason the offense sucks right now. There is a bigger problem, and his name is Shittenheimer.
I've been wondering about this. Did Tannenbaum drop the ball on the Oline or was he just listening to his coaches--Schotty and Callahan--who were confident in the 'depth' they had?
You're right.. I don't know that the next guy would be better than Shittenheimer. But what I do know is that what Shittenheimer is doing is NOT working, and the next guy in line can't be any worse than this incompetent retard.
There was no reason to believe the starting 5 wouldn't get it done. 4 of the 5 starters last year are back, and Hunter played well in his 4 starts. I can't explain why they've been so shitty.
Oh come on....Sanchez sucked..agreed...but that has nothing to do with the horrible...flag football like...quick slant bullshit.... Can anyone who is watching this team not really get when the Jets will pass and when they will run? I shout it out to my son all the time what they will do almost everytime. I said it before..and I will say it again...that play that the Ravens returned for touchdown in the beginning of the second half was one of the worst play designs I have ever seen in my entire life. Go back and watch it. The play has Holmes doing a sideways b line for the sideline that even if the Raven CB is dumb enough not to see it...the play is a two yard out play. Its Schotty to a t. That play signifies all that Schotty is. Please...just watch that play again...and watch Holmes pattern. If anyone can pull that play later on You Tube...please watch it again. I played it back 4 times. The Jets had all the momentum going at the time. If I were Ryan...I would have pulled his dad and punched him right in the mouth. Go back and watch that play again. Thats just one of many horrendously designed plays.
When you don't have a lot of draft picks you tend to get thin after a few years. The Jets have drafted one offensive lineman before the 6th round and four overall in the last five seasons. That's going to catch up to you sooner or later and it caught up in spades this year when we lost Damien Woody to retirement and Nick Mangold and Rob Turner to injuries. Obviously if Vladimir Ducasse had worked out we'd be in much better shape but so far he hasn't and so the Jets offensive line is a weakness instead of a strength. And yes, I think it's obvious that Tannenbaum dropped the ball on the offensive line when a couple of injuries has an undrafted player who didn't even start camp with us starting for us two games in a row at center.
The excuse is that the players he's been working with simply were never that good. Pennington, washed up Favre, and Sanchez. Above average RB talent usually, and lately good WRs. O-line was good the last couple of years. But what offense over the last few years has been more successful with equivalent talent? I've said this a billion times, but fans want the offensive coordinator to go instead of the players on offense because it's easier. Fire one, hire another, problem solved! But if you're forced to accept the concept that the offense as a whole isn't great, well that means you have to make savvy acquisitions and get rid of the right guys; a much riskier and more difficult enterprise. So Schotty becomes the scapegoat. Furthermore, and this applies to this year, not years prior, this offense isn't designed to be that good in the first place. We're supposed to be a defensive team, that wins games 17-10. We scored 24 points last week; if the defense performed as it was built to we would have won. We only scored three points on offense this week, which is a major problem. But I credit the Baltimore defense and the Jets O-line more than Schottenheimer for that.
I think everyone here in their right mind knows tonight was a tall task especially with a brittle o-line. That said, Shotty made : -NO ADJUSTMENTS -Called the same plays over and over. Not just for this game but for as long as he's been here!
Look, I don't care how the play is designed. That pick was a gift given by Sanchez. As for slants, when your O-line sucks I think they're pretty smart, and we had great success with them with Holmes last year.
schottenheimer isnt a super bowl caliber coach no matter how you slice it so why are the jets even flirting with this incompetent prick?
I agree about the starters, but Turner was such a key backup it seems odd that Tanny did so little to bring in depth. I think a good explanation is that the guys in charge of the OL told him the backups on the team would suffice. They either really misjudged their talent or never seriously considered that Mangold might go down.
OK enough of this shit. Last year we had one of the elite OLs and now minus Woody we really, really suck, even when Mangold was there. Plus the offensive calling is sick, with long drawn out call by Sanchez that lead to 5 yard penalties. I am now convinced that non-withstanding the OL problems Sanchez is average at best. He is a momentum killer with 5 yard pathetic throws. . So either we come up with a simplified plan that makes Sanchez moderately successful or we are royaly screwed. Oh yeh, Rex where the f@#$ is the ground and pound?
What? He made a huge adjustment. He simplified the offense to three step drops and throw, which made our offense as predictable as Jacksonville's.
