As far as I understand it, he has to be on the team for the first game to guarantee his salary for the year.
All that speed to get pushed to the ground by a halfway decent Left Tackle. Can't wait to see him be inactive
And hand placement, and the ability to play the run. He's Gholston with speed. I wonder if you combine them, would you get a decent ball player? I'm actually going to say yes.
I am having my doubts with Maybin signing. He does have the frame to build up - has he? No. He really needs some serious off-season training to bulk up while not losing his quick burst and range. Unless he can play at 265 lb level, he is going to be terribly ineffective - even an RB can jolt him. That said, I really hope he pans out here - Patriots had numerous case of such, so why can't Jets have some luck in that? I hope Maybin enters HoF with his Jet cap on - but that's 1. way too far fetched and 2. not even likely at all.
from the BGA: "Jamaal Westerman had a bad missed tackle on the edge to lead to a big gain in the first half, but his overpursuit and missed tackle on Denarius Moore’s end around was much more critical. He didn’t see the field again after that. " Think Westerman's days are coming to an end. Or he's at least getting his playing time cut even more.
i dont know why people think this is a desperation move, we lose two players for the year and bring back one of the guys who really shined in the preseason and give him a chance to make an impact on a defense that he can thrive in. It seems to me everyone has already labled him a bust because he couldnt provide in a defense that was abismal to begin with. Just an example we can all relate too...Jarvis Moss(aka bust) last week made our offensive line look useless...now you can question weather it was the mia mangold that caused it but i have to say that still having 80% of our starting o line is better than most entire starting o lines. Give the kid a shot he earned his right imo to make the team...i dont see desperation involved...the first two games we brought the heat and got some sacks, your not gonna have a sack every game...sorry guys.
How the hell is this a desperation move? He was our best pass rusher in the preseason, we have no one else available on the market, and he comes cheap. What about that is desperate? Because on his previous team he didn't do shit? Different systems, changes of scenery and different coaches will work wonders for players like Maybin. He's not going to set the league on fire, but not only is this not a desperate move, it's a smart move.
Yeah sorry man, think you may need to get your eyes checked haha. Westerman has done nothing positive at all on defense. He's good on special teams and that will likely keep him on the roster, but he's done nothing on defense.
For what it's worth, "Aaron Maybin" is the #1 trending search on Yahoo! this morning. Yes, it's a more popular search than "Saggy pants ban" something must be up.
I thought about this and I don't agree, He will be used in limited situations. A desperate move is a major thing like sitting Sanchez. Maybin will get very few snaps and be used on special teams.
I don't know, I have seen him put pressure on the QB. Isn't he the one who forced Romo to roll out to his right on the INT to Revis?
Westerman reminds me of a Drew Coleman type of player. Flashes at times but generally I wish someone better was on the field. Maybin if used correctly could add a nice frazzle factor against Brady.
I think its seen as desperation because even though he was our best pass rusher in pre-season, he was going up against the 2nd and 3rd string offense of the other team.
