If I'm Flacco, I audible to a run every time I see this guy on the field and send Rice right at him - or through the huge hole he creates with his speed rush move.
Great call there. We have trouble covering RBs and TEs. He has good speed to drop back and cover one of those in different packages. Personally, I though Maybin did well in the pre season, and I thought he was going to make the 53. I liked what he brought in the pre season and happy that he'll get a shot to prove himself in the regular season.
Obviously, Rex and Pettine saw a lack of speed on the edges in our defense and want to see if Maybin can patrol a side of the field. I am all for this move, Harris and Scott were pathetically slow getting to the edge all day, as well as Pace and Thomas. Maybin can add another element to the pass rush because it's obvious no one else was instrumental in making Campbell feel uncomfortable.
This kid better play like his ass is on fire. He knows his job is not safe unless he produces so lets see what he can do. Can't be worse then Westerman has been at rushing the passer so far.
I know, I know. Its such an easy concept but it gets overlooked at times. This is why I am currently trying to intern for Mike Tannenbaum. I believe I would a be great General Manager. I think in about 3 years I will be a GM for a team.
"The Jets on Wednesday also signed linebacker Eddie Jones to the practice squad." Hopefully, he can still knock down that corner three-pointer.
Well I guess the coaching staff agreed with me on bringing Maybin back. And I doubt they signed him to not play him. Let's see what he does this Sunday against Baltimore.
My guess: It's not so much about Maybin's 'greatness' (ha) than it is about having an open spot in the roster (this week). I expect these roster spots will be a revolving door for several players on a week to week basis.
Manish actually reported this morning that they've remained in touch with him ever since they released him. It was only a matter of time until a roster spot opened for him. No question. Will he make an impact? Who knows? What I do know is, he's the 53rd man on the roster right now. What exactly do people expect from that spot anyway? If he's no good, he won't play and will likely be released again. If he plays well he gets to stay. Maybe he'll play some special teams too and contribute there. This isn't Gholston II. Maybin isn't making a lot of money and preventing us from getting someone better in for his salary.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Some of those crazy schemes they implore will set up Maybe as a QB/RB spy, possibly delayed blitzing. Who knows. He could have an impact. Maybe he doesn't. In any event, its not like he is preventing us from trading for Freeny or Ware. Put him on the feild and see what happens. If he sucks he gets cut and goes back to the trash heap.
