Walsh also said Namath was the best pure passer he ever saw. He also said, "Namath was one of the most beautiful athletes to watch. He had the quickest feet. He got back from center so smoothly. He always had an excellent throwing position. That was why he was so accurate. He rarely threw off his back foot."

Namath has a point, and until woody tells him to go fuck off, he's gonna say what he wants.

as far as Namath not wanting to share the spotlight with Sanchez is just flat out ignorance.

honestly, Rex should probably tell a player or two, or even three, that they need to get there shit together.

People need to chill. The team was not up to Par for the Raiders. Everyone on the outside could see this. Whether they took them to lightly, were tired or whatever reason it still goes in the L column. Worry about preparing for Baltimore and Pats and let all the outside chatter be.

I agree with Joe Namath 100% and I'm glad someone associated with this organization had the balls to say it.

    Ugggh.

This team doesn't make 2 Championship games without Rex building the Team up like a great coach does....In todays NFL the talent levels are extremely close and teams get battered with injuries...

The Jets NEED every player in that locker room and looking to be a Jet to believe they are THE SUPER BOWL TEAM......

If you don't like that then you find another coach.....

And if people are not going to get it and crash down on Rex after 1 loss in a season after 2 Championship games, then you will probably get your next Eric Mangini or Herm Edwards wish within a few short years...

Give Rex and his Silly Super Bowl talk 1 more season and then we will find you the next Dave Wannestdat or Maybe a Nolan Jr, Shottenheimer Jr or Shanahan Jr....

Completely disagree with this. Namath mechanically before his second set of surgeries had about the smoothest mechanics I have ever seen. His drop back, foot work, release and the power that the ball came out with from that release was an outright thing of beauty. Vinny is a physical specimen but Vinny next to Namath looks awkward and that's not a knock on Vinny.

Unfortunately Namath played as a back foot QB for much of his career his accuracy and power wasn't the same as it was before his second set of injuries in the NFL. When he first came up his mechanics, ball delivery and power of his throw coming out of his hand was unreal. Look at some of the old films when he was able to rock forward on his throws.

Also disagree about the talent. Keyshawn Johnson was a beast in 98 and Chrebet was a very good possession WR. We also had good talent out of the backfield catching the ball. Namath had excellent WR but not the overall talent at the skill position. Boozer could catch the ball but he was hurt much of the time.

Micky Mantle before he got hurt was as good as it gets but people don't remember that short period very well and most people think Mays was Mechanically the more gifted player. Not by a long shot.

Who cares what people had to say about him? No one wold call Vinny one of the smartest QBs(though if Joe was so smart why did he throw so many more INts than TDs?) but I know there are plenty of quotes about how gifted Vinny was physically.

The bottom line is the proof is int he play not in meaningless quotes. No one doubts his physical ability before he was robbed of them by injuries but he couldn't stay healthy and that is part of it.

Looking at Paul Brown's quote- if that was true why did he only lead us to 2 postseason apps and just 2 postseason wins? Quotes are nice but the proof is in the play.

Yeah, one loss and the wheels are coming off. We need to rid ourselves of Ryan and get a coach who can shit on the players correctly, I think Mangini is available,,,,

I love Joe Wille, hell, I watched the man play and he is one of the reasons I became a Jets fan (God help me). Yet this is not the same NFL he played in, the players are faster stronger and smarter then in his day.

Rex is the best thing to happen to this team in 20 years, he says what he means and has turned this ball club around. Are we perfect, far from it, are we still in need of a few more players in key spots, of course. Have injuries in key spots hurt what Rex is trying to get accomplished, I would say yes. Do we want a coach who will make excuses and tell his players there not as good as we thought they were. Do we want a coach who will tell us, "well we will TRY and make it to the big show, but you know this is a tough division and the players are not really ready for that yet....

    Fuck that,

I will take Rex blowing smoke up the players ass every day of the week. Why, because in the end the players, play for Rex and play hard at crunch time. In many cases they play above there skill and talent level just to please Rex......

So Joe we love you , but just STFU and let the man do his job, which is just what you would have said in your playing days had anyone questioned your coach.......

My responses were specifically to someone who did doubt his physical ability, and since that is something that is impossible to quantify, it is only the opinions of those who saw him that can possibly provide any perspective on the question. My comments said nothing about his performance, only his talent, so your comments couldn't be more irrelevant. Even Paul Brown's comment wasn't about all of the games he actually won, only that he had so much talent that any time he was out there he could beat anyone.

No junc is right. He didn't see him play. read about him. And the opinions of Walsh, Maynard, Shula, Madden, don't mean anything because they didn't read about him, they only witnessed him first hand.

Sorry to insult you, I am commenting not on your post as much as the silliness of the quotes. We can find great quotes about most players, it's about production ont he field which Joe lacked.

Yep, clearly he was so smart which is why he threw 47 more INts than TDs

Clearly we could beat anyone w/ Joe as our QB- never mind just 2 playoff apps and 2 playoff wins along w/ the .500 record as a starter.

I get that many older Jet fans worshipped the man as a kid but at some point you need to remove your childhood crush from the situation and look at it logically.

What do you have to say about the comments of great football minds, Walsh, Shula etc? You always change the subject when you are trapped.

Again- if he was so smart why did he throw 47 more INts than TDs? That doesn't scream smart to me especially w/ his physical ability.

Walsh's comment speaks to his ability, something I have NEVER questioned.

I'm curious to know what the "great football minds" had to say about the likes of Montana, Elway and Marino if they heaped so much praise on The Annointed One.

everyone here forgets HOW we got into the playoffs.....2 years ago we technically snuck in....Last year we SHOULD have been 8-8 those 3 crazy wins ( like dallas win) was through the other teams ineptitude. to say this team is BETTER than last years is crazy! Mason /Burress are old men and WILL get injured and were f*cked. letting Ellis and Cotch go is something we will pay for I feel.....I am a jets fan ,,but were average,,, im realistic

It doesn't matter how you get in, we earned it each of the last 2 years and to say we should have been 8-8 is laughable. Every close win we should turn into aloss? what aboutt he close losses? do we count those as wins?

This year's Dallas win was a gift from Tony Romo, so we should technically be 1-2 by now. But I'll take the win, because every team has to lose some games they should have won and win some they shouldn't.

Are we better than last year? I don't know, but I do know we'll have a clearer picture after the next couple of games. If we're 4-1 after these two, I think we have a shot. If we go 2-3, we'd better evaluate.

But like I said, if Namath's comments are enough to motivate this team to 4-1, who gives a shit? Let him talk all he wants.

Junc is right. If we're going to count the almost losses we should also count the almost wins. The whole thing is stupid. We can just say that we played poorly, but still managed to win.

Isn't it amazing that after 1 loss we see all this negativity? Hasn't this regime earned just a little benefit of the doubt? The team was awful on Sunday but it's one game, even if we lose these next 2 we still have a great chance. This team will get better just like the last 2 teams have.
