I'm not really buying that, why is Oakland pumped up for this game more than any other? He'll bounce back, he's too talented not to, but he'll also have lapses like this where he drives you absolutely nuts. In the end, he won't be worth the money, but he's still one of the best #2 cornerbacks in the league, and without knowing what Wilson would be, the Jets had to resign him.
Home opener, new HC, we spanked them last time Not saying that it justifies Cro sucking, just giving reasons for them to be more pumped than usual this game.
Yeah, home opener, I'll buy, but there's no real legit reason for them to be pissed. Look at the Jets. This coming week, we'll be pissed at Baltimore, looking for revenge. Then after that, the big game against New England. Followed by Miami, where we always have battles and are rivals. Then San Diego will have a great record, and the whole Marty Schottenheimer getting fired from SD motivation will be brought up. Just saying, there's a legit reason to be motivated every single week, other than extra energy from the fans, no reason to come out flat for Cromartie. Their WRs are a rookie mid-round pick (albeit a damn good one) and Darrius Heyward-Suck.
We have a very long history with Oakland + 38-0 game in their house and most importantly they are a team finally getting back on track after years of futility and last week giving away a game against the Bills, they wanted this game real bad…its abit like when we had Chad and finally we all thought we had a QB with a shot in playoffs…remember how we blew away the Colts? In truth we were not that much better than they were. Cromartie has his faults but today was probably his worst day as a pro and again you are underestimating their offense in general and even DHB though not very productive is very athletic has speed & works hard out there. Cromartie just had a bad day after being last weeks AFC’s DFPW, on his day he can look like a no.1,I believe with all his effort on KR & his CB play he is worth the money & by season’s end he will justify his paycheck… Virtually all CB’s with the exception of Revis in the entire league have major F ups…Champ Bailey after being crowned a ‘shut down’ corner was burned a bunch of times in his prime….CB is a position that you just have to look the other way sometimes…
Cro inconsistency is so frustrating. Sometimes he looks so good and sometimes he looks like the way he played on Sunday. It also doesn't help his cause that Mr. Consistent Shutdown is lined up right next to him. So all plays were CB is getting beat will be on Cro.
I will admit Cro had an awful game, although two of those penalties were bogus calls. But I will take my own advice from last week and wait and see which Cro shows up next game, assuming he's okay enough to play. We shall see.
Personally I hope we start Wilson next game to send a message that Cro needs to step his game up. Besides Wilson has actually looked really good the past 3 games, the kid might surprise us and take that next step.
QFT! Dead on accurate. It's maddening because I literally just wrote (and then erased) he shouldn't be returning kicks, but then I think back to how his kick returns have saved us (or at least helped us) in the past. And if it's this maddening to assess him for fans, imagine what the coaches must be going thru.
Backhanded appeal to the mods for help. We see how you roll. No, everybody didn't think that. I can even dig up the thread where I said he'd be a number 3 on a number of teams and you threw a little homer hissy fit on me which started our PM exchange. He would have been a capable #2 on most teams, and #3 on some. Like the point you made about Cornerbacks, this is turning into a pass happy league and a lot of teams had two WRs more talented than J-Co. Here we go. You can't ever admit you were wrong on any minor point because that's your e-thug personality. It's like when you claimed cro lost on a jump ball and Abyzmul posted the screen caps showing it wasn't a jump ball. You couldn't admit you were wrong on the small point, even though it didn't invalidate your larger point (Cro was the best option we had at the time we signed him). I was bummed to see Cotch go because despite my opinion about his skills I liked rooting for him, but it seemed like it was obvious it was going to happen (in fact I think I speculated it would a week or two earlier). J-Co knew he was going into a contract year and wanted to have a chance at some numbers, there was no way he was going to play as a #3.
Granted Cro fucked that up, but I'm willing to bet they told him to go out, be aggressive and return that one.
To be fair, I saw Cro on Denarius Moore for a lot of that game, and Moore is a pretty talented rookie who torched the bills the week before for 171 total yards and 1 TD. He could end up being Oaklands #1 WR a year from now. Some of the calls were questionable as others have mentioned as well. Yeah, I can live with him getting the occasional pass interference call and/or burned, but it does seem like he should get more ints playing across from Revis. It's looking like Cro's 2007-2008 10 int season was just dumb luck or something, and he's only going to get us a few ints a year. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7768/career;_ylt=AsYuo2SGuWSwihwiehEJCwj.uLYF Still doesn't change the fact that we had no better option after losing out on Scrabble.
2 schools of thought in this thread. Is Cro worth it and did the Jets over pay.... Looking at comparable deals, Dunta Robinsona-6yr 57mm/22.5 guar and J. Joeseph-5yr 48.75mm/ 23.5 guar. Cro's 4yr 32mm contract is mkt value maybe a little less. Is he worth it, I don't really think he is.......... Edit: I honestly do not know how much is guaranteed in Cro's deal.....not trying to hide it.......
I'm not really going to focus on Cro's dogshit game here. Instead, at the risk of sunshining, I'd like to point out how phenomenally difficult it is to be a consistently effective cornerback in this league from week to week. (Nnamdi Asomugha also looked like dogshit yesterday). Praise His name.
Man, i wish we would've made a run at J.Joseph. You get the tackling along with the coverage skills . Cro brings some big play ability, but i'll take a consistent tackler/cover corner like Joseph over Cro any day of the week.
Cromartie fucked up by winning the AFC DPOW last week. It's like he was being told how great he is and therefore he wasn't prepared to play Sunday. He was basically TOO confident. That can't possibly be his fault.
Yes it looks like the Jets exposed themselves by making a run @ Nmandi. They could have just went after JJ and they would have been better off. He is certainly a more all around player. The only thing to negative is he has been dinged up quite a bit so far. Before anyone says look @ Nmandi, he sucks, I think the Eagles are using him in zone coverage/cover 2. They spent all that money and not even playing to his strength.......not too smart.
This can be the only explanation for a 'proven top 10 corner' getting 4 PI calls against him. Granted, 2 of the calls were horseshit, but it's not like the Raiders didn't have horseshit calls go against them as well. 8 mil per year, and he gets abused by a rookie with the Raiders and a 2nd year guy with Dallas. This dude better come through in the playoffs.
Two of those calls were complete horse shit. It shouldn't matter if the bad calls happened for both teams. The officiating crew was fucking terrible and I rarely blame the refs. Dez Bryant isn't just some "2nd year guy". He's a potentially elite receiver. Denarius Moore, AJ Green, and Cam Newton are competing for OROY. Moore has a good shot at it because his amount of targets is only going to escalate. You make it seem like you think young players shouldn't have a big impact in this league... In Week 2, AJ Green had 10 catches for 124 yards and a TD. He was matched up against Champ Bailey Now, if we're looking at it your way, AJ Green shouldn't have done a god damn thing against one of the league's best corners because he's just a rookie with the Bengals. Corners, good and bad, get beat all of the time because that's how the game works. I'm going to use my boy, AJ Green, as an example again. I already gave you his Week 2 stats against Champ Bailey...so just look up a bit. In Week 3, Green had 4 catches for 29 yards and no touchdowns. I bet you're wondering who was covering him. It was Carlos Rogers. Who's the better corner in this league, abyzmul? The guy that's making almost 11 million a season or the guy that had to sign a one year deal because he couldn't find a team...? Which player is worth more? ... ... ... Cromartie has a mediocre game in coverage and a horrible game on specials. The fumble was atrocious. One of the most bone-headed plays I've seen in quite some time... The two justified penalties were necessary because he was beat. If he doesn't grab the wideout on those plays, that's a big play and possibly a touchdown for the Raiders. That's poor play on his part. Look at the numbers that Puck posted: Dunta Robinson is making 8 million a year. Jonathan Joseph, who I definitely think is a better corner than Cromartie, is making almost 10 million a season. He got beat for a TD and a couple long gains in Week 3. Here's another CB contract: Ike Taylor, a CB that is trash, signed a 4 year, 28 million dollar deal this offseason. The market for corners is outrageous because the NFL has evolved into a passing league.
