What Joe failed to mention are the back rubs that Rex gives every defensive player before road games. That has got to stop. Either every player gets a back rub, or nobody does. And those sloppy wet blow jobs that Schotty gives to the OL have got to stop as well.
Joe Misses the mark when he says that Rex talking up the team makes them not prepare well. We know Rex likes to have fun and talk but he also puts an emphasis on preparation. I feel the quote is off base but I'm kinda glad he said it. You know Rex is telling the team that Joe is publicly shitting on their work habits this week. I think this helps things get back on track if it has any impact at all.
Just because you dont post alot doesnt mean you dont know what your saying. I hate how this board is full of "know-it-all" Bullies. Its gotten so political, that if you arent in the 10K post club you are either ignored or ripped for everything you say. Sometimes everyone needs to realize we all are here for a reason, because we love the NY JETS. BTW my post count may be low, but I choose not to get involved in every "fire him" "he sucks" debate. I frequently visit the board multiple times a day to get news and read INSIGHTFUL information about the JETS.
"I just, you know, I welcome him to come out here and watch our guys prepare," Ryan sad. "He can see a team that, in my opinion, prepares as well as any team I've ever been around, so I disagree with him. "So, I'm not going to change who I am just because Joe Namath said something. Joe Namath can come in here and if he can still throw, we'll have him as a backup quarterback. He doesn't know our team, he's on the outside. Even though he's a Jet, and once you're a Jet you're always a Jet, he's on the outside. He's not in these meetings. I think if he was, he'd be shocked with our preparation."
Namath is absolutely RIGHT! The Jets DO think they're better than they are. Namath is right on once again.
I would think that thinking you're better than you are is a whole lot better than thinking you're worse than you are, so that part of the comments make no sense to me. If the team doesn't prepare well that's all on Ryan, but Namath has no idea if that's true or not. I don't believe for a second that Namath is rooting for the Jets to fail. I also don't think for a second that his comments are worth anything - he was never the sharpest tack in the box anyway (amazingly gifted until he got hurt, yes, but he has a very long history of making bad decisions both on and off the field). The only reason the media go to him is that because of the team's failures for the past 40 years there's no one else to go to who is interested in talking who anyone would care to hear from.
I find the idea that Namath lecturing the Jets on buckling down and working hard, or taking things more serious is kinda funny. I mean, given that he was known for partying hard right before games and not exactly being a practice player. Must be that wisdom of being old or something. lol
our defense is AVERAGE ,our offense is less than average.....last year we really should have been 8-8 ,,,I believe we arent as good as last year talent wise,,, we do not dominate on D cant even get a f*cking pass rush,,,,,,JOE is right and should have said " Rex shut the f*ck up" and i agree with JOE
Namath can be really annoying but I do completely agree that constantly telling the players they are the best will make them overconfident, but different players will react differently to that, so it's a tough situation, it should be mixed up a bit.
initial reaction: isnt that the number 1 quality of a good leader...the ability to make those around you believe they are better than they really are???
There are some on this board who will claim that Mighty Mark Snatches will be better than Namoth once he gets more experience. To those people...HAHAHAHAHAH The level of ignorance on this forum is amazing. The greatest Jet to ever live gives constructive criticism and makes a valid point yet some people here are ready to burn him alive. No one that agrees with Namoth is "riding his dick", as it was put, maybe, they are just agree with what he is saying... OMFG
Since Rex came to town, sportwriters and talk show personalities everywhere have been latching onto Rex's nuts in hopes of a free national soundbite or a war of words to put them into the spotlight and make some easy money off of it. Most of those turds are bottom feeders. Joe Namath is one of few HOF Jets and also the storied QB who guaranteed SBIII and put the Jets on the map as no other Jets team has been able to do. He's also got terrible knees and a problem with substance abuse, and he's part of a group of NFL players who are most certainly NOT going to be taken care of as NFL alumni, which is shameful, and among a profession whose reported average lifespan is barely within shouting distance of 60 years of age. So, part of me wants to be pissed at Joe for speaking out against the team and flapping his gums like a tired old man who needs attention. The better part of me knows what he's doing, and knows that it isn't going to hurt the overall product of the Jets, and knows that it may give Namath a little more spotlight in which to cash in and make the rest of his life a bit more comfortable. Make that money, Joe.
Nope just most important. best talent? Maybe but he couldn't stay healthy. We have had many other players better than him but none as important.
