I know the best possible scenario is for a stud pass rusher to fall to the Jets in the 2012 draft... however, looking at Hunter's first three games + his age + Ducasse's slow transition to the NFL it might make sense to draft a RT if he was the BPA when the draft comes around. The question is, what players could be worthy of going in the bottom of rd 1 at the position? What about rd 2?
Matt Reynolds, Ricky Wagner, Bobbie Massie & Mike Adams (currently suspended) would be all good RTs that may have Rd 2 grades. OT is a strenght of this draft in the top 3 rounds. No elite tackle worth a top 5 pick, but some solid talent.
I have a feeling one of the three needs we have will be solved in FA whether that be RT, WR, or OLB. The two that arent address will be in the draft. I think if we look RT in the first a great pick would be Johnathan Martin or Riley Reiff to put over at RT but them falling to us in the late first would be awfully tough.
You don't believe Matt Kalil is worthy of top-5? I'm seeing Martin going top-12 in all mock drafts (I know it's early) and Reiff hasn't lasted beyond pick 23 in any one I've seen. May be a stretch for either one of them. But crazier things have happened.
No, I don't. Good player, IMO, he's slightly overrated. I like Jonathan Martin better, but neither are Top 5 players.
I do understand that, teams who need tackles desperately will get them in this draft but there is just SO much better talent in this draft than Martin and Reiff Id say Reiff can get to the back end of the draft, kind of like Carimi last year. And for Martin I dont think he goes in the Top 12. I can name 12 prospects better than him right now easily. Luck, Blackmon, Jeffery, Coples, Kalil, Kirkpatrick, Richardson, Dennard, Jerel Worthy, Landry Jones, Burfict, and Matt Barkley. Now a team might go for Martin since he probably the second best Tackle is this draft but I think there are just so many better players.
RD 1 - OLB RD 2 - WR RD 3 - OT I think Tannenbaum will trade for a competent OL anyway. The OL may suck right now but it's not like the talent isn't there. I can't see this being all on Wayne Hunter starting for Woody. It's not like Mangold, Brick, and Moore just fell off the face of the earth.
BMW has great hands too. He apparently was upset with people calling him just a blocking TE, so he's out to prove that he's more. You can't really blame them though, he was a former 34 DE turned TE, that really doesn't scream "passcatcher". His stat cap is probably 300 yards and another TD or two. He's got another year before he starts thinking draft, then he can pass himself off as a poor man's Marcedes Lewis...
I was at that game, it sounded like a gun had went off. He blocks like he should be playing RT, but his hands are too good to do that. He also had a nice TD catch out of the Wildcat in that same game...
At the highest he will go in the 6th. Hes a blocker, teams don't spend higher picks on mainly blockers.
Agreed, but I will say in a weak class him declaring could be smart, either way I dont see his value getting any higher next year.
Wisconsin is always a great place to go for OLine. Ricky Wagner would be a good pick for the Jets if the CS doesn't think that Ducasse can do anything at RT(still stubbornly holding out hope).
