I think we all agree there's a good chance the Jets are coming home 2-3 before they have their next game at MetLife Stadium. Going into the season, I did not think the offense was as good as last year. The O-Line took a step back, and I didn't think Plax would be able to match Braylon's numbers (at least early). (1) The running game is way down from the last 2 years. (2) Pass-protection is more spotty. (3) Defensive line and LB's do not have enough playmakers. But my worries on the Offense were dwarfed by my fears on the D -- and so far, they've been borne out. Rex did wonders with a no-star defense (aside from Revis) in 2009 and 2010, but you can only use schemes so many times before the lack of talent comes back to bite you. Revis can shut his man down 100% every week and I still have little confidence that the LB's ability to cover TE's, the line getting pressure, and the rest of the secondary can make a difference passing-wise. The one saving grace -- the AFC Pitt game aside -- has been our ability to stop the run the last 2 years. Now, that appears to be questionable. I am dubious about our ability to match last year's 11-5, let alone beat out New England (or Buffalo ? ) in the division.
A good chance at 2-3? I don't see it that way. Balt and NE are tough match ups but they are looking at the Jets and saying the same thing. The Jets could just easily split the next two, drop both, or win both. The teams are close enough in talent that any of the possibilities is reasonable.
I for one do not agree that there is a good chance we are 2-3 after the next two. There is a chance of course but there is also a chance we are 4-1.Every team in the league is flawed at the moment and we are one of em but so is Baltimore and NE. One loss is hardly a crisis, now if we do get to 2-3 then we might be taking about a crisis.
This is not close to the first crisis. Off the top of my head the Jets got hammered 45-3 and lost the next game last year. 2 years ago Sanchez had 3 games in a row with 11 int's combined.......... Then feet thing etc etc.
There has been a "crisis" period each year. 2009: losing 6 of 7, saying we were out of the playoffs after the Atl game. 2010: The 45-3 game then 6 dys later losing to a mediocre Miami team along w/ the Sal Alosi nonsense and the foot fetish stuff. We very well could be 2-3(though I would expect 3-2) but it wouldn't be our first crisis under Rex.
First "crisis?" Sanchez' 5 Ints vs. the Bills. Sanchez reading his note for a presser after losing vs. Jags. Jets shitting the bed, losing to Falcons, and Rex counting them out of the playoffs. Inex whatever the fuck her name is crap. All the Hard Knocks shit. Revis holding out. Rex foot fetish shit. Edwards DWI shit. 45-3. Trip-gate. Seriously, the first "crisis?"
this isn't even a crisis. lose the next 2? Yes it is. Season would still be far from over. the jets can't go on the road and win against a good team? we only have 4 playoff road wins in 2 years.
Cincy in 5 degree weather, in San Diego (14-2 going in), Indy vs. the mighty Peyton Manning, and Foxboro, where the Pats "never" lose. Yeah, but we can't win on the road. *rolling eyes*
If we do lose the next two games, Rex will be taking some heat for sure. The bottom line is that he has shown the ability to win big games in big spots on the road so let's see what shakes out over the next couple of weeks. One loss isn't a crisis.
The OL has to be a real concern. Teams don't go far in this league if they can't block at the point of attack.
We're on the road at two of the toughest places to win a game in the next two weeks. Anybody who thinks the most likely result is 1-1 or better isn't paying much attention to what really happens in those places. For reference, since 2007 the Patriots are 30-3 at home in the regular season. The Ravens are 24-9 over the same span and that includes a 5-11 year in 2007. If the Jets were healthy and ready to go on all cylinders this would be a tough pair of games. As it is I think the odds are the Jets come home 2-3. It'd be nice if they won one of the games but that's a longshot.
