im not even going to sift through pages of excuses for him. yes the rest of the game he ran for his life and made some good throws. he also left some WR's out to dry. and theres no excuse, i repeat NONE for that INT in the endzone. forcing a jump ball into double coverage when your already out the pocket to throw it away I dont care about what mistakes other teams QB's are making, that was the most avoidable INT possible. that left 3 or 7 points on the board, combined with Cro's botched return and allowing the 70 yd DMC run. key plays that broke our backs of course Greene got yards when he actually had blocking, maybe his doubters can start pointing fingers at a OL thats a shadow of itself right now.
I don't want to sound like an apologist. That is not what I am trying to do. Sanchez is completely to blame for the pic and his continuing dumb mistakes I am more concerned with the significant amount of dead time this offense seems to have in a game. The offense seems to give away too many possessions with nary a fight. Dead time allows the other team to hang around and the Jets defense to break down because of the pressure it is under to hold the fort. Now I think the dead time yesterday was on the Oline or lack there of. Re: Sanchez's ok stats: Yes, stats are misleading because it looks like Sanchez's stats are pretty good and we all know he wasn't very good yesterday. Also it looks like Sanchez got clobbered all game long and really the vast majority of his and sacks came in a 20 minute stretch. A dead stretch that doomed the team and seems to every single week and I am at a loss as to why the coaches and team constantly allow it.........
Maybe Sanchez is trying to do too much, but more often than ever, he is succeeding! Rating up from 75 to 90 so far, yards up from 206 to 295/game, YPA up to 8.0 from 6.5. So he's had to throw more AND he's doing it with greater success... with two new faces as primary receiving options! Mark made some fantastic throws yesterday I wouldn't have expected last year, especially some beautiful floats to Burress. He's on a steady rate of improvement, when that stops, maybe I'll worry. The bad throws are a product of that Vick/Brees/Roethlisberger type unwillingness to give up on the play, and there's give and take with that. Ben's made some moronic throws the first couple weeks this season, but is anyone here going to claim he's not a top 5-8 QB?
Sanchez does not have the build to hold up like Ben. The Jets can't afford to have an oline as bad as Pitt's. Vick isn't going to last, if he last another season getting beat up like he has, I will be shocked. Brees, I think is more like Brady, his quick release allows him to get out of jams and not constantly killed, as he doesn't have Ben's size either........
Notsureifserious Every QB outside of the top 5 make those mistakes Mark's a gunslinger, Jets need to stop being fools and let the kid sling it Not to mention theres 4 receivers in the same spot, typical schitty
This thread is funny. I don't think anyone is arguing (nor can they) that Mark lost the game yesterday. He DID NOT. That is clear. But the OP is raising an issue that some seem afraid to take head on. We have been sold on the fact that by year 3 Mark would begin his ascension to elite QB. But this season, despite the record, or stats, or QB rating yesterday, it doesn't feel like he has. Yes, the line is shit. Our RT is a joke and we have an untested kid under center (yesterday and half the game before). But it still seems as if, on a whole, Mark makes bad decisions, rushes some plays, takes too long on others, and still looks uncertain. And it's frustrating. That is all.
This is a REALLY good post! And like you, fuck if I know what the actual solution is. It's really maddening.
I am also concerned about overall lack of effectiveness and consistency in the O. But that INT was a key play in this game. It left points on the field. Points taht if scored would probalby have required Oakland to play a somewhat different game. It was a play that changed momentum. Sanchez also did not look confident after the INT for some of those stretches you refer to. We hear about how having a short memory is a good thing for a Qb. Well, it's more complicated than that, but yesterday Sanchez looked like he did not have a short memory.
Regarding the o-line, I'm not saying either of them deserve any medals or anything, but has Baxter outplayed Turner the last 7 quarters? I'd say yes, and that's kind of sad. I know RT is blocking outside passrushers, but Baxter is a untested rookie, picking up the nuances of a new offense and still having to block and try to clog the middle up for our QB and clear running lanes for our RBs. Baxter >> Turner. I know it's only been 7 quarters, but this is really bad for Turner.
Sanchez is getting better. He was better last year and he has been better this year. I don't think the INT was as much a mental mistake as a physical mistake. There were 2 Jet receivers in the area and he simply didn't get the ball to the back of the endzone. He wasn't as set as he should have been to make the throw. I don't see that as a huge mental mistake. That was a physical mistake on a roll out with pressure on. This teams problem is very simple, we aren't that good at the point of attack right now. The Raiders were simply winning that battle on both sides of the ball at the line of scrimage. Hard to over come that especially with a game changing turnover on a kickoff.
I think you and I watched the same game. The 4th and 2 throw was behind Burress and the TD pass that was dropped by Mulligan looked like it was tossed instead of fired in there. That pass was tipped. There was also the play when Burress turned had the defender beat the ball was 5 yards away from him. If you just look at the stats you'd say he had a good game but if you watched the game and saw some of the poor throws and bad decisions he made you'd say he just played ok. The thing that bothers me is the poor throws or the bad decisions at crucial times of the game. The Mason play was on a crucial 3rd down, him missing a wide open Holmes late in the 4th quarter. He doesn't have much time to look for the open guy and that's not his fault but when he throws the ball he has to make better throws.
FYP, and this is, IMO, dead on accurate and probably worthy of its own thread. Never heard of Baxter before and yeah, the kid has struggled, but that's to be expected. He isn't awful, and Hunter is.
If you watched the same game I did the Jets were blown up at the point of attack on both sides of the ball and we made a fatal error on special teams.
doh! yeah, sorry. hahaha...they each have such generic-type names (Hunter and Turner) that I screw them up often.
I agree. When people talked about Sanchez playing better in year three, what were they talking about? I think part of it had to be fewer mental mistakes. Better overall execution. More consistency. We did not see those yesterday. Imo he so far this year has not shown any real improvement.
I don't know about that. Much of the pressure was up the gut. The breakdowns in protection, blocking the wrong guy etc. I don't think Baxter out played Hunter at all. Really that is like saying chicken cr@p smells better than dog cr@p. Edit: The blocking the wrong guy was Hunter and Keller......
All true but it doesn't just absolve other people from their share of the blame for mistakes. Usually a loss under Rex has had a few clear cut reasons the Jets lost. This week is the first I remember where it seems fair to give pretty much everyone some blame. Coaches and players a like.
