Yeah actually it's not just "jagoff Jets fans" blaming Shotty for failing to adjust and not having a proper plan of attack. It's also the team's best offensive player, Santonio Holmes. And yes, you clearly are defending Shotty. To think the way he called that game yesterday was just fine and dandy is moronic. No adjustments. Couldn't come up with anything to attack the zone until it was too late. And if Sanchez keeps getting hit on the rollouts like you say, WHY keep running them time after time when the Raiders were clearly all over it? Why keep calling those 3 yard slants when they keep getting jumped? Did you think maybe you are the "jagoff", not the people who are criticizing Shittenheimer including Santonio Holmes?
This thread can be summed up easily. When the O does well it is in spite of Brian, when they struggle it is all his fault. never mind the QB had no time to throw we were supposed to throw the ball downfield all game long.
The fans I am referring to are not on this site but sorry you are too insecure and thought I was talking about you......... Really I suppose saying last night wasn't his fault is defending him then put me in his camp of defenders..........
the problem is...we dinked and dunked all game long. I know our oline didn't give Mark enough pass protection...but this isn't just one game we're talking about, junc. Schotty's poor adjustment history stems back a few years now. He can't use the "oh, i have a different QB every season" excuse anymore.
What adjustments did you want?? One yard away from 31 points & Schotty blew yesterday's game? Jets offense also led in time of possession by 6+ minutes. Schotty isn't Bill Walsh but yesterday was a defensive and special teams disaster. Also: How should he attack the zone? Raiders are jumping short passes & Sanchez can't stay in the pocket long enough for downfield patterns to develop. The run game is also getting stuffed because the O-Line is getting dominated. Actually, no it's the people blinded by Schotty fury that are the "jagoffs". The Jet's O-Line got sucked and it effected all that stuff that the tv camera focuses on ... the WR & QB. Sanchez didn't have the time for longer routes to develop.
How could we not dink and dunk? Sanchez was getting pressure on the quick throws, he certainly didn't have time to hold it and get it down the field. For all the complaining our O did score 24(an inch away from 31), we lost this game mainly b/c of our defense.
Defense payed like shit but the offense should have put up at least 34 in this game, even without the need for a comeback. Schottenheimer put Sanchez in some terrible situations yesterday. Did anyone else notice that our most efficient drive was with the no-huddle? Sanchez finally got into a rhythm when Schottenheimer was removed from the playcalling. That's a pretty telling point.
They were an inch away from 31, if the D gave them a chance late instead of allowing that Raider juggernaut O to clinch the game I think the game would ahve at least gone to OT. We weren't in a true no huddle that last scoring drive, we were on the last drive to end the game.
It's the chicken and the egg. While Sanchez does well in these situations the defense is more often than not playing an extremely soft zone trying to avoid giving up the big play. You saw Jason Campbell do it to the Jets defense right before the half when he had almost no success throwing the rest of the game. Sanchez goes for 150 yards passing in the 4th quarter with the Jets down by 2 TDs. The no huddle/hurry up is not some magic formula that's going to fix the Jets offensive problems.
I'm really not sure how much that helps your argument given that the Jets needed at least 34 just to stay alive. This should not have been a close game and it should not have been a come from behind situation. I'm not arguing that the defense is at fault here, Junc, that was the first thing I said in my post. My point is that the offense isn't where it needs to be, either. Not by a long shot. Too many drives stalled against a middle of the pack defense, too many points left on the field. The offense was put in a bad spot by the defense getting into the endzone but the fact that the offense only had 17 at halftime given the opportunities presented to them is a huge problem. Offensive play like this isn't gong to cut against better defenses like Baltimore.
This offense is not yet as good as it should be, but it's better than It has been. So far He looks like he's coming around.
The Magic formula is to stop going outside the numbers and lays that take more than 4 seconds to get the ball out of Mark's hands. And...They have been doing it more. If the Defense played like they keep telling everyone they play, we're 3 and 0. If it weren't for Romo helping out the Defense we'd be rightfully 1-2, and looking at a long season.
24 should be enough to beat a team like Oakland, our D should never allow an offense like that to gash us for 30+ points especially when we had only one turnover in our territory. The O has a ton of work to do but the main reason we lost was b/c our D was gashed. The O gets their share of the blame but it's not as much as the D.
I think mark has been worse this year than he was last year despite the much better #s. I expect he and the O will get much better as the season progresses.
This was the pattern last year and it's the pattern this year so far. Sanchez first 3 games were in a very simplified set that was much more straight up and down the field than what the Jets normally run and he was pretty good as a raw rookie there also. If you have an offense that requires a rocket scientist to run correctly then you're kind of screwed at the start because Peyton Manning is the only rocket scientist on earth who has a good arm also.
Yep. And it's not like this is a one time thing. It's constant. Sanchez is at his best when they play up tempo and they're going no huddle. The people defending Shotty are not realizing the team's BEST PLAYER on O even criticized him after the game. If the players believed in Shotty and his way of doing things, you wouldn't see stories like that.. not only is it easy for fans like us and announcers like Phil Simms to see he's being outcoached, but the players who study the game plan and try to execute it know it sucks. Talk about frustrating.
I don't think anybody is arguing the point that the Defense played bad and was more at fault for the loss. But that does not absolve Shotty and his crap offensive plan and complete inability to adjust. This whole "Well we scored 24, what more do you want?!" excuse doesn't fly. You can't just say oh, if we reach a certain number of points we should win. Each game is different.. and in this game, the Jets could have, and SHOULD have scored a lot more points.
With no-huddle, the defense is not getting rest between drives. Whether Sanchez can score or punt, defense needs to get back on the field immediately. No-huddle would've put even more pressure on the offense to overcome the D.
Following up on each game is different -> In Sunday's game, the defense failed & the offensive line got manhandled. The offense which entered the game with injuries on the O-Line came within one yard of 30+ points. Even when the offense cut the lead down to one TD, the defense still allowed Raiders to drive clock down to two minutes & eat up all the Jets timeouts & still kick FG. There will be games in the future where the offense sucks & defense played good enough to win. However, Sunday wasn't one of those games.
