Plain and simple, we're not that good. I have high expectations for this team, I want a Super Bowl. And what I've seen so far has been troubling. Am I saying we're going to miss the playoffs? No. We're good enough for that. But I don't see this team winning the division and making it back to the AFC Championship. If we get that far, we're going to have to win tough road games again most likely. Can we do it? Sure. Is it likely? No. After back-to-back AFCC appearances, I want more. And I just don't see it. Right now, there are 2 units of this team that you can call very good: our inside linebackers, and our cornerbacks. Our quarterback is alright, but he makes too many mistakes and not nearly enough big plays. All we do is dink and dunk, and he makes too many bad decisions. That INT early in the game took points off the board and was a huge turning point. He's gutty, and I like the kid a lot, but he can't continue to make rookie mistakes. The runningbacks, again, they're alright, but Greene isn't running with nearly as much power. He isn't breaking tackles this year. He looked better today, but most of that was running in open space that any decent back could run through. LT looks good, but he'd probably wear down if he got the ball too much. Mason and Plaxico are old and have trouble getting separation. Clear downgrades from Braylon and Cotchery last year. Holmes is very good, but he's not elite. Elite is Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, guys with elite physical ability. Holmes isn't in that league. Keller is a good pass catcher, but not a good blocker. Cumberland and Mulligan are one-dimensional at best. The offensive line, which was the biggest reason our offense was even average the last 2 years, has imploded in front of our very eyes. The defensive line is young and not disruptive. At least now with Wilkerson, we have a guy with potential to become a disruptive DL, but right now, no. The linebackers are very good at stopping the run, today notwithstanding. But they're slow, and teams with elite speed, like Oakland, give them trouble. As a result, we're just not a great playmaking team on defense. That's always been our problem. Sure, we picked off a godawful McCown 4 times, but he was just overwhelmed. Revis is great at taking guys out of the game, Cromartie is a good #2 most of the time, but our safeties are limited and not playmakers. Thank goodness, we have good special teams, or we would be 1-2. We're still good enough defensively where we should be a playoff team. Sanchez looks a little better than he did last year, and the OL can't play much worse. While we don't have many glaring strengths, we also have no glaring weaknesses. But the first 3 games have exposed a lot of holes on this team. I trust Rex as coach, but this is when having so few draft picks recently comes back to haunt us. Where are the young playmakers that are going to step up and play for us and make a significant impact on offense or defense? We don't have many. And because of that, our depth is a major issue. We can't afford injuries at QB, WR, OL, LB, or Revis, since we just don't seem to have the depth. I thought when Mangold went out, there was a real possibility of us going 0-3 on this road trip, and that it would be a tall order to go 3-2 in this 5 game stretch before the bye. We're not off to a good start in that regard. /rant
The Jets lost the game cause they didn't control the line of scrimmage today. Oakland's lines dominated!!
Would be nice if they can find some way to get a good pass rusher. Campbell literally had all day to throw the ball, as does every QB unless a blitz is coming. I really think Maybin was given up on too quick. He was a guy who had tremendous speed and was worth holding onto longer. People can use the whole 3-4 only needs good pass rushing linebackers but this team doesnt really have anyone who can beat their guy 1 on 1....
It's Week 3, though. Believe me, I'm livid we lost this game. For one, we should have been up comfortably at half-time. Second, the 2nd half we shit the bed, in all phases. I actually don't understand the following: -Why Schotty continues to call short passes/dink-and-dunks on 3rd and long? -Why did it take until the last TD drive of the game for the Jets to find somewhat of a rhythm? -Why does Hunter constantly get beat? -Why does it appear that Cro lacks a football IQ? Next week against the Ravens just got a helluva lot harder with the way we are playing. I'd call for Mangold to be rushed back, but Baxter did a fine job. It was the rest of the O-Line who wasn't that great today. I wonder if we'll be able to stop Ray Rice and company next week. The thought of that right this very second, not looking pretty.
Fine, sub him out and plug in Larry Fitzgerald, or someone like that. And did you watch Dez? When he's on the field, he's a difference-maker. Santonio is very good, don't get me wrong, but he's not an uncoverable freak of nature, therefore, he is not elite.
And where's our version of Suggs, Woodley, Wake, Ware????? I like how we gave up on Maybin when he showed flashes in the preseason of being able to get to the QB. After this game Rex has none to say whatsoever. Sign Maybin
That's bullshit. We played like dog crap today. And, wow, a terrible, terrible game for Cromartie. How about giving Oakland some credit. They played with balls. Their OC should get a game ball. We'll recover. This is the worst the defense has looked in years. We'll recover.
seriously bro, step back from the ledge and take a breath. you could nitpick like this with any defense.
Honestly, agreed. I really liked Maybin in the preseason. Why sign somone in the preseason, and then when he does well, we cut him?
Cro never had a football IQ. That's why I've been more on the "Cro is overpaid" team. He's a fine 2nd corner, but the guy does stupid things on and off the field. And today, that killed us. Hunter constantly gets beat, and we have no one in place to push him to take his spot. The Jets actually had a rhythm early, but Sanchez blew one drive with an awful pass, but we were running outside, and we were moving the ball. Then that all stopped from the 2nd quarter on, until that drive. It's not all Schotty though. Sanchez doesn't look down the field at all. He looks short all the time, and rarely looks to push it down the field. I think that interception may have rattled him a little in that regard. And believe me, I did not like Schotty's playcalling from probably the 2nd quarter on. I actually think the Jets can do a good job against Rice, at least running the ball. He'll kill us in the passing game, but McFadden is pure speed, and our defense is slow. Rice is fast, but he's not McFadden fast.
Were not that good week 3. I agree. Its impossible to play a flawless game, but the Sanchez endzone pick, and Cro fumbling, Defense playing like dog shit.. Raiders whooped the Jets ass, but the Jets killed themselves.
If you read my post, I still think our defense is very good on the whole, and I think we're still a playoff team. But the defense was awful today. Whenever we needed a stop, they couldn't seem to provide it. Until Romo didn't protect the ball against Dallas, it was like that against them, too. I'm more saying our offense is regressing, and our defense, while very good, has its flaws, and they show up too often.
The things that bother me most are lack of pass rush. It's freakin pathetic. And the running game. 2 things that i thought i could count on seeing being built strong under Rex. I fuckin hate this pass happy shit this year. If those 2 things do not get fixed and fast,we won't make the playoffs this year. if we are going to continue to not get at the QB,brady will put up 40 on us no problem.
