I saw a tweet that Rex says Mangold is 'iffy' for this weekend. 'Iffy" sounds pretty good at this point. Perhaps the sky isn't falling.
High ankle sprains can linger for a while. I'd be surprised to see him next week if it's at all a question whether he can go. If you come back too early, it could linger around the whole year. If I were a Jet fan, I'd want him out until the Patriots game.
If you were a Jet fan, you wouldn't want him out at all. As you're a Patriot fan, you want him out until after the Patriots game.
I think how long they keep him on the sideline depends on how they do at oakland. If they win, I think they will feel content to let him rest for another week and make sure he's fully healthy for fat albert and vince. If they lose though, I could see them feeling a little urgency and trying to get him in there against the ravens.
Both great observations. While the next two are conference games, which are more important than out of conference games, it's not just that it's the Pats, as division games are most important. Adding that it's the Pats, and SOMEBODY has to beat them, makes that the most important game by far. And on the offensive scheming, it's unfortunate that Mangold being out will limit the Offense, but there are things that can be done to lessen the damage, somewhat.
He actually said VERY iffy and that he would leave it up to the trainers to decide if he even makes the trip. If he does it will swell up at altitude so I think you can almost bet the farm he is out this week.
At the end of the day, after Mangold returns, it will be nice to know that Baxter is in the fold should one of the other interior linemen go down- this is of course assuming that he doesn't pull a Ducasse (it's ok, he's a "project") and get Sanchez killed. He already has the hair for the position.
Normally I would think they would rub some dirt on it and Mangold would play this week. The long flight is probably a problem it will add to the swelling (insert mile high club joke here). Can't see him missing the Ravens game.
I think Ladanian Tomlinson is a QB's best friend in this kind of situation. Honestly, I would expect this to be another week where Jets fans are disappointed in their run production though. Maybe even your offense as a whole if you guys try to run a lot to avoid putting MS at risk.
I hate to agree with a Pats fan on this one but I think it's true. Those screens to LT that usually work really well (until Schotty mysteriously decides to stop calling them) would be exactly what I'd like to see if the Raiders DLine is getting into our backfield. I didn't see them play the Bills last week but in week 1 their pass rush looked pretty potent. This game has me a little worried...
JennyVrentas Jenny Vrentas Mangold shows up in the locker room off crutches but wearing a boot. Says he's still working toward playing Sun. #nyj
At this point I don't want him anywhere near the field on Sunday. Let him sit out and be fresh for the Baltimore game.
