Agree. I'm not worried about Sanchez per se... but with the OL playing like this (and now no Mangold for some time) + 2 WRs who have been in the system 2 months other things worry me regarding our passing game.
I too would agree that Sanchez has improved his accuracy thus far this season. However I WOULD be concerned about a couple of other things about your offense. Play action passes (PAP) are a big part of Sanchez's arsenal. When teams start to ignore the running game, that PAP game will lose a great deal of its effectiveness. Also people are going to eventually shut down that seam pass to Keller. It is by far the best throw that Sanchez makes down the field. The 3rd thing to worry about is the OL. BEFORE Mangold was hurt, Sanchez seemed to be under a lot more pressure than in previous years. Teams with better pass rushes than the Jags are going to make life more stressful for Sanchez as the season moves on. So while it seems clear that Sanchez has improved some aspects of his game, he's going to need that improvement to off set declines in other aspects of the offense....including his tendency to STILL throw the ball to the other team with alarming frequency
Before Mangold got hurt the Oline was blocking very well. ...........that was about 10 minutes of game time though. So your point isn't correct.
The completion percentage is the most important stat to me that shows his maturity. That fact that he has been 60% and 70% these last two weeks shows me his development as a qb. I'm not too worried about the ints - that will happen when you're throwing the ball a lot. Overall I've been pleased with our offense. Gotta throw the ball in this league to win. It's good that we're doing that finally. Our Oline on the other hand...ugh.
He's getting hit alot,,, and hard. He still throws bad decision interceptions. I thought he played well the first weekend and got criticized for no reason. Yesterday, I wasn't thrilled with him.
Sanchez is growing in the offense. What bothers me is the holding on to the ball. And the little lack-a-dazzikle things. He almost got the ball knocked out of his hands running out of bounds not finishing the play. And then got pissed. The pump thing is new. He is consciously trying not to throw picks. Besides that no problemo. Not bad with no run game and a great defense. He is young and will get better.
Couldn't agree more (actually his stats are superior to both Flacco and Ryan so far, but then again it is not their magic 3rd season) Sanchez biggest flaw seems to be a lack of maintaining 100% concentration, which is a maturity issue (at least partly). It was obvious that he was focused on his first drive following the discussions about Jets not scoring in the first quarter etc. Following a easy lead, sloppy plays, e.g. running out too slowly with the ball, set in. Not too worried about him but I have to say that both Stafford and Freeman are better at this junction.
my only beef is when he pumps towards a receiver that is not making a double move teams are already jumping our routes because we rarely threaten them deep, when sanchez pumps hes drawing a ton of extra attention to that area ... when he continues through his progressions after pumping, he has guys wide open
Yeah... I'm worried as all hell.... I wish they would have drafted Freeman LIKE I SAID!!!!!!! You have California Boy or the 6ft 5'' Monster who can make every throw in any condition.... And of course, the Jets take the California boy Why? "because he has a lot of friends who show up to his workouts"..... Really Rex??? - Well, your Jet career is now tied to the California Kid... I think Rex is one of the best coaches in the NFL - that decision was damn big though.
I feel like every year people are gonna worry about sanchez, hes fine, just realize hes an average QB in stat category but a good one in the wins category and move on, its a rare attribute
I'm surprised there's people worrying about Sanchez already. Started the year with Holmes (who started last season w/ suspension) and brand new wide receivers & the O-Line is giving up a lot of pressure right now. Don't worry about Sanchez, worry about Mangold. The Jets O-Line still hasn't clicked and they might lose the best Center in football for a few weeks.
So far you've been right but this can change. It was a big decision but obviously not one made on the basis of no of friends (something 'one of the best coaches in NFL' obviously would do?) but on leadership, intangibles and report with Rex.
The first pick was an awful read, it was cover 2 and there wasn't much space between the corner and safety. Second pick was an awful decision, that ball had to chance to be completed. The play design was also extremely poor. Other than those 2 throws (altho it only takes 1 to change the entire complexion of a game) he was very good yesterday. Just need to make better decisions.
I agree but I also think that his accuracy on short passes is lacking at times too. His passes to his rbs out of the backfield are always terrible. Remember the horrible pass he threw to Shonn Greene that almost got him killed. He does that alot on his shorter check down passes or quick outs.
This whole post sucked. Freeman is good but this debate was had before - no one knows if he has the intangibles and the dynamics that Sanchez has.
the only thing i'm worried about are his interceptions and the oline breaking down. his first int was miscommunication, the second one was his fault completely.
When will people stop harping on how he shouldnt be compared to other players, then compare him to other players? especially when the stats favor Sanchez? I dont give a fuck how long Rodgers sat. We dont have Aaron Rodgers, end of story. We need Mark Sanchez at his best. Sure Mark hasnt had the liberty of sitting on the sideline and learning. He's had the liberty of a great defense, great OL, and great run game. 2 years on the field is worth way more than 3 on the sideline. I mean honestly, what year do we critique Sanchez than? year 5? The OL is starting to worry me, and with the running game being at risk as a result, Sanchez HAS to play better. If Romo didnt shit the bed, Sanchez couldve cost us that game. I think people are sweeping this under the rug. the fumble and pick were both atrocious plays on his part. If we werent playing the Jags its hard to say how that game comes out. the defense got us plenty of turnovers and we operated on a short field most of the day. I think Deion Sanders explained it best, "Mark Sanchez can show you that hes taken another step in his commitment to excellence, then he has plays that show you 'hes still Mark Sanchez" these hiccups in his otherwise good performances cant happen if were going to do anything this year. also, quit pointing to his amazing 2-0 record as if the defense and a guest appaearance from Chokie Romo hasnt carried this team thus far. now before i get bashed as some SOJF yadda yadda yadda, all I'm saying is I expect more than most out of Sanchez A)because i have faith in the kid and think we havent seen the best of him yet. B)we need to take advantage of the defense we have NOW, I worry about Rex refusal to address LB depth. in pursuit of DB's. Sanchez seems a little more focused and to have a little more zip on his throws this year. All I'm saying is people harping on a 2-0 record need to realize the jags game was a gimme for anyone planning on being a contender, and were a few Romo mistakes away from blaming a loss on Sanchez and the OL
