If it is a high ankle sprain and pretty much everybody believes it is then that is normally an injury that causes you to lose at least 3-4 weeks. The fact he is a center may reduce that a little but the fact he is 300 pounds may make it longer. We should get some idea today.
I think the kid did a decent job. I wouldn't start moving guys along the line, and quite frankly, I feel more confident with Baxter getting a week of reps with the 1s at center than Ducasse starting. The fact Mangod looked pretty stable on the sidelines is a good sign and hopefully he'll only miss 2 games, tops. The thing that sucks is he's one of the last guys you want injured on this team. The thing that's not too bad is that it happened week 2. Mangold's a pretty tough guy, so hopefully this doesn't become a lingering issue the rest of the year. He is human.
Baxter was awful. I was watching him (I have to look at the game again but on the plays I specifically watched him). He looked better than he should because he faced such a poorly coached team without an ability to adjust. He was lucky, Jacksonville never attacked him, except in goal line situations. Their defensive scheme dictated that the 2 tackles were over Moore and Slauson. Pretty much every play, Baxter I noticed was able to run out in space, with no one over center and nobody to block. I can not understand for the life of me why they (Jags) didn't change things a little bit and adjust on the fly. However, on the goal line stand Baxter was driven back 4-5 yards every play. Thank god the 2nd time around they ran behind Slauson and Brick. I truly worry if and when the Jets face Ngata or Wilfork or against a defense where they have the ability to adjust, game plan etc.....it will not be pretty. Nothing against the guy. He is an UDFA and it is ridiculously difficult for him. He may have a bright future..........
He is too banged up. He would have been signed a while ago. He is better than Gurode and any other name that became available when healthy enough to play.......I don't think he is ready to play.
I had a grade 2 high ankle sprain an high school that kept me out for 4 weeks. Towards the end I was able to come back early the Doc said as long as I could play through the pain. Depending on the severity he could be out a week or months if surgery is required. Since the X-rays came back negative I would imagine it's not a severe sprain. This just blows, I can't think of a worse player to get a injury at this time. Heading into Baltimore and NE with a 3rd string Center is a nightmare. That's just 3rd string for us too.
TheJetsStream Manish Mehta #Jets All-Pro center Nick Mangold has a high ankle sprain, per @ProFootballTalk last night. That would mean he'll likely miss few weeks #nyj I hopes, as a center, it is less.
Mangold getting hurt overcomes the fun of winning by that much. He's one guy the team cannot afford to lose for a long time. Baxter may have played better than Hunter, but compared to Mangold, he sucks.
Mangold injury #Jets All-Pro center Nick Mangold has a high ankle sprain, per @ProFootballTalk last night. That would mean he'll likely miss few weeks #nyj per Manish
Oakland Baltimore Pats......fuck.....Without Mangold against Ravens and Pats were going to have some serious issues. Sanchez has been running for his life with Mangold in the game, now he has to play without him.
Well what can ya do, certainly can't sit around and be depressed about it, move on, he will come back in October. Colin Baxter atleast showed he can hang in there, its really Wayne Hunter whos the problem. Its def not gonna help our running game, something is off about it. I honestly believe Greene cannot be a feature back for us. Hes just average but he is obviously going to continue to be the back this year, i think we need to see if McKnight or even Powell can play because LT cannot run from scrimmage anymore
Compared to Mangold, most of the starters in this league suck. He's a two-time first team all-pro for a reason.
Mangold is the best Center in the league, and for that we are spoilt, anyone who comes into replace him has a near impossible task.
WTF? Manish is going on an article on ProFootballTalk from last night? Shouldn't he be the one giving us insider beat information? The diagnosis is a High Ankle Sprain, and that was made last night after the X-Rays came back negative. He still has an MRI today.
