Have any of you seen Jason Bay in the new anti-bullying commercial in the NYC area? It just made me understand why people bully other kids.
Bobby Ojeda absolutely trashing Parnell as he blows yet another save. I don't think I've ever seen a pitcher blow half of his save opportunities. 4 errors, 3 unearned runs. Not good. Bay has certainly looked far better lately after going back and looking at tape from when he was actually good. Given he is untradeable, the Mets have to hope he actually has figured something out.
Defense blew this game. Even though Parnell didn't pitch well, that wasn't on him. Hope this is really Bay finding himself.
It's easy and accurate to blame the defense, but as Ojeda said after the game, this is Parnell - when he needs to make a big pitch, he fails a shockingly large percentage of the time. It's not just that he gives up big hits - he makes incredibly bad pitches doing it.
The FA market for closers is pretty depth this year I believe. F Bobby failure Parnell and sign a decent closer. Of course after re-signing Reyes.
It's pretty incredible that Bud Selig is angry at the Mets for "throwing the league under the bus" by letting people know that they wanted to wear NYPD, PAPD, and FDNY hats on 9/11 but were ordered not to by major league baseball. Maybe you wouldn't look so bad if you hadn't been such a jackass about it, eh, Bud?
Reyes has stopped stealing due to a nagging hamstring injury. He hasn't attempted a steal all month. In August, in 8 games, he was 3/3 stealing.
Oh yeah, and Valentino Pascucci is on the team. He's one of those all or nothing guys who played parts of two seasons with the Expos, before bouncing around Japan and the minors for years. He's in the lineup today, making his first start for the Mets. Reyes sitting this one out. Tejada leading off and Bay batting cleanup. Quite a lineup, without Duda and Reyes. Well we have completely mailed it in...me included...for this season.... If we do two things this offseason one is to sign Reyes and two is to get a serviceable CF to replace Pagan who is not worth the $5 million plus he will get through arbitartion.
Ha thanks....i just feel fo Collins guy has given his all this year.. we need a cf / 2 x sp and a cp Good luck with those $2 sandy!!!
One thing I expect to see Harvey in AAA and Holt given a serious look at a bullpen roll. He has been lights out in AA as a closer.
CF is not close to our biggest need. Pagan is probably going to be the most cost-efficient CFer available for next year; I'd be moderately surprised if he's on a different roster opening day. Get Davis healthy, resign Reyes, try and move Bay and see if Duda produces in left field and invest a lot in pitching. Pagan is serviceable if the Mets aren't expecting a lot. Second base is more of a question mark. Turner is not the answer.
It may not be our biggest need but pagan is not the most cost effective based on his arbitration figure. there are more productive CF available who would command a similar figure on a multi year deal. Bay needs moving in a deal of some kind ... Duda has to play LF...get him some time in the Winter League to improve his glove work and anticipation. Murphy has to be our 2nd base player..again he needs a lot of work. I think we move Stinson / Holt into Bullpen also I think Familya gets a long look at Bullpen in Winter. Harvey and Wheeler into AAA and AA respectively Capauano is our No 4 pitcher. We then need a good No 3 behind Santana and Dickey and a rotation of Gee/ free agent for No 5.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't C.J. Wilson a FA this offseason? If we could somehow get him, and re-sign Reyes, that would be perfect. With Davis and Santana coming back next year, you never know.
