LOL!!! Right!!! Where are those guys who were saying that Cam was gonna be a bust??? No OTAs, no mini-camps, and the guys is playing at an incredible level already, even with a lot to learn. He's still making some rookie mistakes (forced passes, losing yardage on 3rd and 1 inside the 10 late in the game, getting too amped and overthrowing a wide open receiver in the EZ), but this kid is a player. Barring injury, if the Panthers can surround him with talent and give him a true #1 WR to replace Steve Smith when he retires, this kid is gonna rewrite the record books and is gonna be a HOFer.
I am gonna say that I am shocked and surprised Newton has erupted like this through 2 weeks. I am always curious though as to how he handles teams having extensive game tape of his though. Sanchez started off very hot to open the 09 season but then he went to a downward spiral in the middle of the season. I believe heading into his junior year at Auburn I said he might be a richer Vince Young but he is so far above that. Much hungrier mentally, better accuracy and has been an ideal teammate by all accounts.
HOFer? No. We can't say that after two games. A very solid QB? Yes. He hasta win some games first and his team has to improve on D. This upcoming draft , imo, will have a HUGE impact on Cams career. If they can come away with a WR like Jeffrey or Blackmon and improvements in the secondary and DLine they can be a 8-8 team next year and Cam can further develop. I'd like to see him win a game as well.
I said he was gonna be a bust. No problem admitting I was wrong.. I didn't think he had the accuracy or the work ethic. I haven't seen him play yet but 800+ passing yards through two games speaks for itself.
Heck with that, go defense. Once Detroit figured that out they started winning. Detroit will be or already is a powerhouse. Besides, Newton is finding somebody to throw to for 400 yards a game.
Detroit also had arguably the Best WR in the game....so that helped. IMO Steve Smith may leave to look for a ring which means Cam needs a target. They can go D the rest of the draft, they need to get a top flight WR like Blackmon or Jeffery who can come in and be a #1 WR.
I'm impressed. Apparently you can get quite a bit out of your #1 overall quarterback by not making him the richest player in the NFL right off the bat.
