He was great for Mangini and I'm sure he's an even bigger asset to Ryan. He could eventually possibly be the difference between just making the playoffs and winning the SB.

We need to make the NY Jets this guy's last stop in Pro Football.

Let's use the 2012 franchise tag on him.

I really don't think that's part of his job description. It he's signalling that 2012 could be his last year, he's basically telling the Jets to get off their ass and find an understudy by August, 2012 to follow him around and learn his process.

He'll be a tough act to follow. The knowledge he has took decades to build upon, so replacing him (even if you could find a ST genius), still lacks the experience factor... something you can't learn in college or from studying film.

Ben Kotwica has been here for 3 years. I can imagine he'll be given a shot, but there will be a drop in production.

Westy is a HOF ST coordinator.

The Jets should keep giving him whatever he wants so he comes back for as many years as he can.

The man is a beast, and one of the best coaches in the NFL.

We weren't making the playoffs in 2009 without Westhoff. Therefore, no AFC Championship game that year without him.

The next best team was 9-7 last year (San Diego), so we were probably safe. But if you switched our special teams with San Diego's special teams, San Diego probably goes 14-2. And we would be lucky to be .500.

Special teams has always been an unsung edge for us that pushes us over the top. Our offense hasn't been very good for a while, so with little margin for error sometimes, our special teams have always provided a boost.

    Westhoff is the man.

Thank God that idiot, Dave Wandstant, fired Westhoff pushing him into the NYJ open arms. Hiring him was one of the best moves Herm ever made...

Westy is a great coach and I was sad in a way when he said last year that this year would be his final season. Glad he is coming back. Best Special Teams coach in the league and glad he works for the Jets.

    Dear Dave Wannstedt:

Thank you for everything you've done to the Dolphags organization. Of course you couldn't have done much better with Marino situation, but I must give credit where it is due - you did run the Dolphags organization to the ground. On top of that, you have fired Westhoff, who we have hired with joy. Westhoff has been extremely successful with us - and we wouldn't have enjoyed the special team success during the past decade without your cooperation.

    Thank you very much.

P.S. Last, but not the least, I hope you burn in hell - and enjoy the pain just for laughs.

Can I thank Wannstadt for getting fired at Pitt so that Rutgers could take two of his best assistants, helping to win some recruiting wars in NJ as well as help Schiano figure out how to run an offense?

    It's a Win/Win.

I thought he was saying he was retiring like 2 years ago too?

I hope he keeps going back in his retirement plans.
