You can stay as long as you want, Coach.

Awesome news. I doubt Rex is even considering trying to replace him

Exactly. Westhoff is a great coach and an even greater human being.

Shit. I was hoping he'd step down in order to run for President in 2012. Only Westy and his intricate special team schemes can prevent world hunger/solve the economic crisis/bring together Palestine and Israel.

I'm all seriousness I'm VERY happy to see this news. The man has become an institution and I'd like to thank Wanndstedt for letting him go all those years ago. His hire might've been the best thing the Herm/Bradway regime ever did.

Great news. Now I can stop worrying for 1 more year about who will replace one of the best ST coaches.

I wonder how much of Joe Mcknights blocked punt had to do with this. Im sure that ignited him and made him feel really good.

2012 would mark 30 yrs in the league and 65 yrs of age... 2 very nice targets to aim for. Also the world will end after 2012 so who cares what happens once Westy retires!

Let's get this man his ring!!!

I'm almost positive that the only reason Westhoff wants to stay another year is because of Joe McKnight's blocked punt.

I heard Mike Pettine was going to quit after Cro gave up that td to Miles Austin but decided to stick around after Revis intercepted the ball at the end of the game.

Westy is without doubt the best ST coach in the game, IMO.
As long as he wants to coach, we'd be silly no to want him back.

Stay as long as you'd like coach. It would be our pleasure.

They need to have someone on staff watching everything he does, ready to take over when he's ready to step back. It's lunacy to start over like Mangini tried to do.

I met him, riding on his bicycle, on campus at Hofstra in 2006.

I was walking past him as he was approaching. He was returning after practice and, as was his custom and regimin at the time, he was riding his bicycle for excersize and rehab.

So I blurted out, "Hey Mike!"... without anything else in my head at the time other than I'd seen him many times and liked him as a coach. And I'll be damned if he didn't see my Jets attire and stop his bike and engage me in conversation.

We talked about the prospects for the coming year and how he was doing... it was a great experience. And he wound up giving me an autograph, which I still have on one of those withe Jets balls.

This guy is not only a great coach but a terrific person, and as they said when I left the US Army in 1970, "All efforts shoud be made to retain this personnel." We should keep Mike for as long as he feels he wants to contribute.

Imagine if it had been Vernon Gholston's blocked punt. He'd sign for ten more years.

    Abso-fuckin-lutely,

If I'm Rex/tanny/woody I offer Westy a lifetime contract, and say we want you here for as long as you're willing to coach. The day you want to hang them up, you go right ahead, but until then, we want you in NY, because you give us the best ST unit in the league year in and year out.
