When Sanchez does his own thing he forces a pass into the middle of the field with a linebacker waiting, clear as day, to intercept. Lets not absolve him of any wrong doing last night, Sanchez still has a tendency to try and do too much instead of the safe when needed. Schotty's playcalling is mind-boggling though.
Throwing a bad ball has nothing to do with play calling. He was clearly rushed into that throw and knew who he wanted to go to before he even snapped the ball. Bottom line is Sanchez during all those comebacks last year combined with last night has proven to be more effective when reading the defense and calling the plays on the field over Schotty. I don't even know how you can argue it given the evidence.
You guys are hysterical. Why is it so difficult for fans to see the difference btw lack of execution and bad playcalling?
Sanchez directly was responsible for 7 points. We still lose if D and ST didnt step up. Perhaps we should trade Mark for Kerry Collins?
So the fact that we didn't try and bring in extra blockers to compensate for poor run-blocking was because of lack of execution? Right...
who were these extra blockers we were bringing in? Did you know our swing OL is hurt and we don't have anyone else we trust?
Doesn't take much to bring in a 6th OL or a 2nd/3rd TE (Mulligan) to chip a pass rusher off the edge and open things up. I'd trust an extra body over what we saw last night. Shitforbrains made a shit decision in that department. And what you're pretty much saying is that you'll give him a pass because he doesn't have the talent to work with. You won't hold him, as the OC, to coming up with schemes which utilize the players at his disposal to the best of their ability?
What bothers me was the lack of a bootlegs or sprint outs. Some of us mentioned this in the Game Thread. You have to move the pocket if there is constant pressure. Plus, Sanchez has shown time and again that he can excel at such plays.
For the first game of the season I'd say Schotty did ok. There weren't more than a couple occasions where I almost threw my remote at the TV and screamed "Fucking Schottenheimer!" We put up 27(20 on offense) points...that doesn't exactly suck. ANd against a solid Cowboys defense no-less.
Dallas's D basic strategy is to take the run away. MS still has work to do getting in synch with his receivers, which is one reason why Keller and him looked so good. Dallas also had a very weak secondary. And Dallas scored first against the Jet D, with Bryant making the Jet secondary look like camp cuts. Then the OL, particularly Hunter, played badly, and by the time the Jets were in their second possession, the first quarter ended. I don't know how you make much of that in terms of the Jets not scoring in the first quarter. It was right to focus on the pass, and MS's two turnovers imo prevented the Jets from scoring more. I give BS a B+ for last night. The offensive problems were more execution than anything else. They need to tighten it up, failing which I WILL blame the CS for lack of execution. But opening day, coming up with a win? Let's see how they do next week...
Bad playcalling. Period. Go back watch the film. Count from the snap. When he runs plays to get the ball out of marks hands in less than 4 seconds. Great. More than 4, not so much. Cowboys best defensive player? Ware... Jet's weak link, Hunter. Why do you think we only had 15 runs last night? Because Dallas' advantage against us, is their front 7 against our diminished line. No 4 wide, screens, quick slants, making them field dime packages (which of course is their defensive weakness, no secondary) This guy sucks.
Not to digress but it will be interesting seeing how well Dallas's D plays in coming games. I am thinking they will be above average, and we need to take into account that Rob Ryan did a great job with them, and likely will continue to do so.
C+ because they won. ITA about focusing on the pass. But..in for a Penny in for a Pound. Dallas should have been forced into dime packages all night long. they weren't.
I NEVER said it had anything to do with play calling. I said it was Sanchez's decision-making. Read it again.
it will be interesting seeing how well NY's O plays in coming games. I am thinking they will be above average, and we need to take into account that Brian S does a crappy job with them, and likely will continue to do so.
Watch tonights game. There should be far less decision making with the ball in hand. 3 seconds and out for 6 yards. 80% of the time. Thats Coordinating, not Decision making. The fact that you were not looking at 4 wide and quick hitters forcing Dallas to go dime last night should be a death penalty offense. Sanchez has tremendous untapped potential. Look at the big time throws he executes with the game on the line. If his fucking boss could learn to throw a ball for 5 yards at a time CONSISTENTLY, they would almost never lose a game.
I don't see why the offense shouldn't trust Ducasse to come in and throw a block on a running play as the third TE. He has proven that he can push people around in the running game, granted it would be a telegraphed play as I doubt the CS trusts him to pass block even aa a TE helping out either Hunter or Brick. Schottenheimer has made no secret of his desire to open up the passing game and we wouldn't have given Callahan the running game coordinator title if Schottenheimer was effective at calling the running plays. He has a bad habit of running on first down and then going right to the pass for the next two plays when the run doesn't work which doesn't help Sanchez out at all. Sanchez in turn gets over excited and his accuracy tends to suffer for it. All things being equal I would rather see the offenze commit to the run earlier. If it is a three and out either way I wouldnrather run some more clock down and let the defense get a little more rest and a little more time with the position coaches to make adjustments. Schottenheimer had his share of fuck ups last night but the offense's struggles weren't all his fault and wasn't one thing that would have fixed the offense. It's also the first game of the season after an abbreviated preseason so some hiccups are expected.
