ESPN Dallas and the Star Telegram in Dallas are reporting that Jenkins' MRI shows he has the exact same injury as Smith-- hyper-extended knee, which usually takes 2-4 weeks, however they claim the Cowboys have not ruled Jenkins out, at least not yet.

Jax was downgraded to a UFL team after they cut Garrard.

well like I said, hopefully neither can go. However if one or both can get on the field (which is asking a lot a 2-4 week injury reduced to 2-3 days...) they will be hobbled and certainly will be beatable. Especially Smith in his first ever NFL game, against a Rex Ryan masterminded defense.

I was thinking the same thing. That's asking more than a lot, and why would they risk potentially further injuring or straining knees of two players crucial to their team, in the first game of the season, making their potential recovery time longer. Doesn't sound like a good idea, but that's just me.

I think the reasoning is simply that if those guys don't play they are fucked.

I heard that if Jenkins is out, they may only have 3 corners healthy enough to play sunday.

If Smith is out, I believe his backup has 1 year college EXP as a DE and otherwise hasnt played organized football since 8th grade.

So they are probably really desperate right now and are hoping for the best. But in the next couple days, sanity will return and they will do the right thing for the teams long term season as opposed to surviving the weekend.

losing a player each in their two most suspect areas.....

    i'll take it.

between that and the garrard cut, this might be one of the easier opening 2 weeks we've had in awhile. of course you still have to play the game and it is the NFL, but considering we had ravens/pats last year to start, this is a huge relief.

Me, too. They fucking suck. I prefer 4pm games if you live on the east coast. If you live on the west coast, all times are good.

Nothing beats breakfast and beers for a game at 10 am. You're done at 1 with the rest of the day to get shit done. If your game is at 1, fine. You can get shit done in the morning. Prime time games are perfect for happy hour

Granted, I was thinking the same thing, but why would you say (or type) that out loud (for people to see)???

If their fan sites are to be believed, it's possible that the injuries are not in the 2-4 week range.

This is supposedly from a doctor:
"if the MRIs were negative, this means there is no bone damage, no ligament, tendon or cartilage damage. The major structures are intact. A hyperextension in this case does not mean they're out 2-4 weeks. On the contrary, they could be playing this weekend."

Sounds like a lose-lose for them, though. I suspect they'll at least sit Smith, because if they expose him to a long-term injury than they are screwed.

What alot of you guys are not saying is that this is a perfect trap game for us. Everything is set up for Mark to unload on their secondary and watch it all go to shit. The bottom line is they still have tons of weapons on O along with D Ware on D.

The Jets over the years have lost a ton of games like this, lets hope this year is different.

We need to get to 5-2 before the bye in my opinion. How do we plan on winning a superbowl If we can't out muscule teams early in the year

If you live in Europe primetime games = 2.30 AM!!!

That said injuries are aprt of the game... I'm just hopeful we try to take advantage of their suspect secondary...

    Oh come on...
    1) Romo is coming back after a year on the sidelines.
    2) After Austin & Bryant they have NOTHING at WR.
    3) 3/5 of their OL has either never played an NFL game (LG & RT) or only started 1 (C).
    4) They have 3 healthy CBs, all of which are backups.
    5) They carry 2 kickers...

All of this in a shortened off-season with a new DC.

    We will destroy them.

I never understood this reasoning, you get a banged up team and hopefully you get a nice lead and are able to put some back ups in to get some play later in the game.
Come out of it with a win, less wear and tear on the starters and the back ups get some needed real game experience.
The Jets will have plenty of good teams to play at full strength, why not look forward to a few games where the back ups can give the starters a break at the end of the game.
I would rather a few games like that so towards the end of the year the team is just a little bit less banged up going into the playoffs.

Normally,I hate Sunday night games, 1pm games are the best, but to open the season, against the Cowboys on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11, that's an honor only given to good or popular teams. We are both, Dallas is one of two. Bottom line, its gonna rock and we are going kick some booty in front of the entire USA!!!!
