Random quick NFL question using Maybin as an example. How much did he get paid for his short time as a Jet?
I don't know if it's just me or what but... This 53 men roster screams out to me Jets are drafting OLB and a safety early next draft, no? (Safety could change to tall WR depending on Plax situation though)
Def we will be upgrading outside linebackers next years draft but I still won't rule out the chance of a Trade ( for S or OLD )
right now our biggest position of need is OLB. our LB's as a whole need a youth infusion. an elite safety would take our defense to another level. That said, if we don't draft one early, I doubt we take one next year at all, we really like the depth guys in the secondary and if we aren't drafting one with the hope he becomes a big time difference maker in the secondary, I doubt we get one. WR wise, could very well be our most important need next April. Burress may or may not work out, Hell even if he does, he will be 35 next year. If he is resigned, we need a young stud guy to groom. On top of that Mason is 95% likely to be a 1 year rental. Its hard to think Receiver won't be near the top of the needs list come April.
I think Maybin got something like 2.7 million from buffalo, and from us he probably got like 200k at most.
WR LB FS OL In that order. I can see the FO drafting the same position twice like they did with the DL this season. Draft one ILB and one OLB.
The strenght of next's draft in Rd 1, as of now, is WR. I can't say drafting a WR in Rd 1 is a given, since I believe Plax will get a contract extension for a few years. The key will be the development of Kerley, Payne and maybe Gilyard. Probably the second deepest position in rd 1 will be OLB, which is probably the direction the Jets should address. Forget about Safety, there isn't much elite talent. We may be able to get a player like Harrison Smith in rd 2 or 3.
This team needs an OLB bad, sorry Westerman has done nothing to this point and probably wont. I understand Rex uses a different version of the 3/4 than say Pitt but if we had Woodley as he is like Suggs this D would be sick. After that our O-line is a freakin mess at RT/LG to this point in preseason, along with no real back-up O-line on this team. Screw wideouts if Mark is getting killed all game long it doesnt matter who his wideouts are. OLB O-Line Safety or Wideout
6 guys on the D-Line makes me a little nervous. Especially since Ropati Pitoitua is coming off an ACL tear last year, Marcus Dixon is very very raw and 2 of them are rookies. Granted, there is no glory in being a 3-4 D-lineman and I really should trust the CS,......I just wish Shaun Ellis was included in that group at about $2 million per year (not the $900k we offered and nowhere near the $4 million NE is providing).
I'm kinda surprised they picked up O'Connell instead of Kellen Clemens. At least Clemens knew the system, and even though he's marginal, O'Connell hasn't ever done anything I can remember to impress. Oh well, if we ever get to the point where we have to play one of them we're pretty much fucked anyway, so it doesn't matter.
I asked about this yesterday, it was answered here: Seems to me the rule is there to help the players but ends up fucking them because the teams have a way around it. So Clemens is out of a job or at the very least a game check. If you remember Hard Knocks last year, Laveranues Coles was cut with the impression he'd be back in Week 2 and he was never brought back.
Much different amounts being paid out. For a 3rd string QB, Kev is just fine. if we lose 2 QBs I'm not exactly going to be looking for that trophy.
Gotta see the season first. This is Jamaal Westerman's big shot, hopefully he lives up to the moment.
This might be old news, but anyways... Jets signed DT Martin Tevaseu and DB Isaiah Trufant to the practice squad
