Gilyard was a very good signing for us. After out top four WRs we didn't have much. Also, given the age of our WR core having two young guys to bring along sounds good to me. Horrible news about McElroy though. He really looked like he could be our #2 guy for a long time.
Whoever we signed after pre season I don't know about. Lets get a little insite from the well informed. We need OL's (many) and QB, DB and WR. Lets see what we got. All imput is welcome
I wouldn't mind the Jets signing Garrard to back up Sanchez if Brunell is still hurt. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5994/career;_ylt=AjhkHBAhwLXxX7zKGGoO2JL.uLYF http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/david-garrard-cut-jacksonville-jaguars-quarterback-090611 I'm surprised the Jags couldn't trade him rather than cut him.
I'd imagine they tried, that's why he was on the roster so late. It seems like trades are hard to make this year.
Wel now that ROOKIE contracts are structured and not out of this world coming out of college those CHEAP draft picks are important more important then a aging Player
Garrard could still start for some teams, I would't be surprised to see Miami, Washington, Carolina, teams in that type of situation. Carolina is different but Garrard would be a much higher priority for them.
Interesting point about how much more valuable draft picks are now. Not only do you get young players, but they're cheap now too. I hadn't really thought about it like that. Yeah, but finding a starting NFL QB isn't exactly easy. Considering how bad a few of the starters are, I find it surprising they couldn't get a little something for Garrard. Not even a late round pick, or a conditional? I guess teams are just following the Sanchez/Ryan/Flacco model now and starting rookies. Maybe it's the age and the health issues, with Garrard also, but damn. The guy completed 65% of his passes last season, had 28 TDs (5 rushing) to 13 ints. He was 13th in passer rating and pass TDs. If you tack on his rushing TD's and consider he only played 14 games it was some nice production.
Washington seems like a good fit, Grossman and Beck are both epic failures and he seems like would give them the best option to win.
Darius Butler never lived up to his potential, and at this point I doubt he will, and we're fairly good in the secondary, but I decided to put his name here anyway.
Garrard would be a great pickup for a team in desperate need of a QB, but it really sucks for him that this happened so close to the regular season. I don't think there's a team that is desperate enough to start him week 1 with no preparation. He'll likely go to a team with impending doom at the QB position and sit for a week or 2 until QB failure. Then he'll start the rest of the season.
