#EA The Jets waived 26 players. They also traded S Dwight Lowery to Jacksonville and traded for G Caleb Schlauderaff from Green Bay. New York Jets @nyjets New York Jets #EA Both trades (Lowery to JAX and Schlauderaff to NYJ) were for undisclosed draft choices. List of all players cut: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...db-dwight-lowery-to-jaguars-announce-all-cuts ______________________________ I guess we needed a guard pretty bad. Looking at the list Kroul was cut. I didn't see that coming but makes sense given the trade.
This is a bit shocking. Although I haven't been with it this offseason, did someone step up over Lowery? I really liked his instincts and thought he could be a ball hawking safety for us.
I agree, and if you think about the number of plays he was in on defense last year and what he did with them, I was very impressed.
I agree but think about it from this perspective. Rex has really liked what he has seen from E Smith and so he should. From the Pats Playoff game til now he has improve drastically. He obviously loveees Leonhard and Brodney Pool has been playing very well in the pre season. That's three quality starters. Lowery has been in the league for how long now, 4 years? Chances are next year we will be drafting a Safety, Lowery wasn't getting resigned after this season, might as well get something from him. In the mean time Rex will continue to work on Emmanuel Cook
I'm a Miami fan so would love Meriweather here but there is about a 5% chance that happens. Meriweather is going to want to start somewhere and our safeties are not going to be happy with splitting time with another safety.
The draft pick for Lowery was probably used to get Caleb. That's fine. This isn't a big deal. Lowery was a good Jet but he wasn't an impact player, and OL depth is paramount over a backup safety. I hope Schlauderaff is going to be good enough.
As soon as I heard about the two trades, I figured that we traded a guy to get a pick, so we could get schlauderaff. Sucks we lose Lowery, he made some big plays for us in his time here. But unfortunately he didnt have the speed to be the man corner rex needs. His transition to safety obviously was taking longer than expected. Time to move on and hopefully schlauderaff is going to help us out. As to the guys asking how we traded for a guy who was cut, he wasn't officially cut, so when the jets called GB, they said sure we'll take a pick for the guy... Why the jets traded for him when he was about to hit the wire, I have no idea. But they did.
I agree here although I liked Lowery for the most part. I think O-line depth has been perhaps the biggest issue for the Jets this summer so I doubt they wanted to take a chance of having issues going into the regular season. I'll never forget Dwight's pick 6 on Favre, or the one he had in week 16 against the Colts in 2009 on Curtis Painter, who, if you've seen recently, looks like a bum.
Packers are doing work, trading reserves to needy teams for picks. They just shipped their backup FB Quinn Johnson to Tennessee...
Wait wait wait... I don't agree AT ALL. 1) Lowery was going to make the team, Schlauderfuck was going to get cut... no way they're worth the same. 2) Lowery has made impact plays over the years as a Jet... My guess is we got something around a 5th rd pick from the Jaguars and gave a conditional 7th to the Packs...
Schlauderfuck as you called him was a sixth rounder. I have no problem swapping a sixth or a seventh for him because our scouting department and Bill Callahan supposedly wanted him during the draft. We needed depth behind Mangold. This kid has ability to play center and guard - he's an upgrade over Robby Felix/Matt Kroul. Let's hope he turns into another Matt Slauson type player. Lowery was probably moved for a pick that can escalate. Let's hope he does well for the Jags.
Lowery's had his moments, but when OL depth becomes an extreme issue you have to do something to fix it. A backup safety in Rex's scheme is not as important as a guy who has to step in and protect your franchise QB. This is turner's replacement. I don't think he's going to be as good as turner, but this isn't a crippling loss to the team by losing Lowery. Now that I think of it, I probably am wrong about the pick being the same considering Lowery is more valuable. I didn't know Caleb has done nothing in his career and was on the verge of being a roster casualty. But Lowery isn't a big loss.
I commented in another thread that I thought Lowery might not make it as he is pretty much topped out potential wise and isn't a big factor on ST. A little slow to be a CB so he wasn't as versatile as the staff feels Trufant is. Probably got no better than a 6th rounder for him that can maybe escalate so good luck to him. Here is a bit on Caleb. Sept. 3, 2011 5:56 p.m. |(7) Comments Green Bay -- It was quite a Cut-down Saturday for Green Bay Packers guard Caleb Schlauderaff. In the morning, the Packers told him he'd be released but they hoped to bring him back on the practice squad. In the evening, he discovered he had been traded to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick. Welcome to the NFL, rookie. "I enjoyed my time here but I guess it's a business," said Schlauderaff, 20 minutes after realizing he was traded. "You learn that a lot on a day like today when you're released and I don't even know how this happened. It's a business but I'm excited. It's an opportunity to go play football. "I'm not sure how it happened. I'm kind of clueless right now." Schlauderaff, a sixth-round pick out of Utah, mostly struggled through training camp. In one-on-one drills, he lost leverage frequently. He did bounce back from a very rough game in Indianapolis in the preseason finale. Against Kansas City, Schlauderaff entered the game midway through the third quarter and was OK. Overall, he looks to make up for limitations in athleticism by finishing plays. He has an edge. As our Bob McGinn points out, just ask Kansas City's Jovan Belcher. "The Packers are a great, great organization," Schlauderaff said. "I'm just at a loss for words right now to be honest. I've never been to (New York) but you see it everywhere. It's a business. I'm excited. It's crazy." In the end, G.M. Ted Thompson was obviously willing to move on. The 6-foot-4, 302-pound guard says he knows where he must improve his game. "I need to get a little firmer in pass protection," he said. "I need to anchor a little quicker and use my hands a little better."
