Didn't see one, so I thought we could use a thread for those tough waiver wire decisions. I'm looking to drop Danario Alexander for either Earl Bennett, Devin Hester, Emmanuel Sanders or Donald Driver. My other receivers are Fitz, Julio Jones and Plaxico. Return yardage does not count.
I think you should wait for Week 1. Question... why not draft these guys instead of Alexander if you like them so much? Right now, it is a toss up between Sanders, Alexander, and Hester. All have potential to explode if their teams go pass oriented, or Hester becomes more reliable. Driver is on his way to, at best, a mediocre 50 catch 900 yard season. Bennett is the only guy I would waste a lot of time on. He's good and a favorite of Cutler, but Martz has to put him on the field more often first.
A guy I've seen on waivers in most leagues is Anthony Armstrong from the redskins. With an aging Santana Moss and not much else going for them Armstrong has become a big target in their, albeit shitty, offense. Could be worth a shot if you really need a WR.
This is for a backup, right? Vick and Hasselbeck like their TEs, but I'd go with Celek. Not only is he a starter, but he is proven to be mediocre, whereas Cook could be worthless in a run-first offense. Look at Fred Davis's numbers last year, or Marcedes Lewis before last season.
Jared Cook should break out this year. Celek's playing in an offense with a lot more options, but that doesn't mean he won't produce.
Really? I feel like I learned the hard way last season that Vick does not like his TE, in Philly at least. I drafted Celek as my primary TE given his production with McNabb, and I was lucky to get 2-3 catches for limited yardage every week. It was only when Kolb started those few games that he gave me any decent points. I do remember him getting a long TD in the comeback versus the NYG, though. Of course, I assume he was doing more blocking than catching passes. Edit: That said, I think Celek might be the better option against Cook due to Tennessee's run-first offense, as mentioned above.
http://www.commishonline.com/?p=1447 He did look to him during the Giants comeback and seemed to target him more towards the end of the season, out of Celek and Cook I'd probably take Celek right now being in a high powered offense, but Its going to be interesting to see how Locker uses Cook when he becomes the starter
