Not if you have a good backup QB it isn't .

You don't win superbowls with backup QB's too often...especially not 7th round rookies. Sucks that it happened but the kid really needs to go on IR. Willy looked pretty competent anyway so there's no guarantee Mcelroy is a big step up in the first place. I think Payne needs to hit IR too...we just don't have these spots for guys that aren't going to play for half the season. Turner we probably need to keep for oline depth.

I also think Maybin is going to be a much higher priority than most people seem to be giving him credit for...I want to protect all possibilities of a pass rush even at the cost of a painful IR or two. There are a lot of redundancies in the defensive backfield anyway where you have an opportunity to cut a useful player like Lankster, Cook, or Lowery if necessary and bridge the gap that way.

I'd be cutting Kroul and Felix to bring in a vet tackle, move Ducasse to guard in a pinch [assuming the tackle is already needed elsewhere] and hope he doesn't kill someone till Turner is back. Could also call someone up or sign and cut if 2 Oline guys go down to keep Ducasse from ever taking a snap. He's definitely an annoying fucker to be working around right now but I don't want to be keeping either of those other 2 scrubs because of it.

^ You don't cut a promising, productive, proven young player like Dwight Lowery for Aaron Maybin.

    Think.

Who's the backup center if Mangold gets banged up? If you cut Robby Felix, we won't have one. Robert Turner will be out of commission for half the season.

    Think some more.

I'm all for bringing in a vet offensive lineman that can take snaps at tackle and guard. You don't cut your only healthy option behind Mangold to make that move though.

Rex likes Bearing also. Bellore and Bearing were teamates. We have some very good players that are going to get cut. This is the deepest compition for TE and LB that I have seen in years. I also like that RB we cut also.

FWIW, 2 players that have been cut could be decent O-Line backups.

Keith Williams, OG was cut by the Steelers. A promising rookie from Nebraska that I heard the Steelers didn't want to release.

Pat McQuistan, OT was cut by the Titans. Hasn't been able to stay with a team the last few years.

In before someone starts a thread about Sanchez giving up on the team because his best friend was cut.

Keith Williams was a Bill Callahan recruit.

Pat McQuistan seems like a slightly more talented Nevin McCaskill - just a journeyman that can't stick anywhere.

sec134 just changed his mind. ...instead of four wins, we're only winning two.

    Exactly!

We spoke about Williams quite a bit before the draft, he's got talent.

you're right I wouldn't cut Lowery for Maybin I was just throwing out a few names depending on the FO's evaluation process and the general direction they want to go. If they start leaning a certain way it can really change the dynamic of what you need to do elsewhere to make it work. I'd cut Lankster for him real quick though. Maybin offers the potential to do something that almost nobody else is offering. That is worth a lot when it falls in a big problem area from last year. They picked him up...he did everything they asked and more. They were right about the basic concept of him, now they have to buckle down and give it their best shot to make him work for real as the season progresses. He absolutely needs to stay, and I'm sure he will.

As to Felix you're probably right there. Our 2nd team oline is just such garbage though I want to see them all gone from my sight forever. Overreacted.

I think Sanchez has adopted the policy of this young man in the pink pants, regarding the relative age of high school girls to his current age.

Kristofer O'Dowd Cut by the Cardinals.

I know O'Dowd has some issues and wasn't drafted, maybe Nacho will lobby for him.

We don't need a lot of extra ?'s at Oline but replacing 2 guys might be better than one. Certainly let's start with 1.
