NFL caliber tackles will take this kid's one move and push him past the pocket and knock him off balance every snap. He's not an NFL player. He's the defensive version of David Clowney.
That kid's one move is more than I have seen from our "pass rushers" for a damn long time, and considering his short time with our team he unlike others have done a hell of a lot with his limited opportunities certainly more than most of our "oline" depth including some locked to our roster. As others have said, we had Gholston on our roster for years and he hadn't shown us anything remotely close to what Maybin has shown, unlike Gholston I think Rex has a chance to make something out of this guy
gholston was on the team for financial reasons, different circumstances ... and I don't get your o-line depth comment, they're not competing for the same spots until he learns a counter spin off of his speed rush he will get worked every play ... he's been in the league for two years and has developed not one additional move. that's not a good sign
They may cut down to 50 and look at who else is available. At first I thought he had no chance but I may be rethinking that.
In the preseason......against primarily second and third stringers. Who knows if he makes the final 53, but even if he does, he's a project.
I honestly think if the kid bulks up a bit and obviously Mark Carrier works with him, he has some upside. We are facing some major dilemmas on who we cut/keep on defense, though.
I wonder if he'd make a good strong safety with his speed, plus he's a line backer so he already knows how to knock the snot out of someone.
Put him on the practice squad for a year and load him up with horse steroids and hopefully he can be a formidable pass rusher next year.
Looking at him last night, He'd be worth a 1year flyer to transition to SS. That would make him multi dimensional. He'd be a blitzer, crushing in Run Support, teach him to cover a TE....the man could be good. He's just a guy whose natural talent exceeded his natural body size. Move him.
If he stays I reckon Rex will try and use him as a utlity player (strong safety would make sense) whilst he works out if he can make a player out of him, might be practice squad.
I just highly doubt he would even make it to our practice squad at this point with the preseason he's had (seeing as how there were reportedly 6 teams, incl. the Jets, interested in signing him). If he doesn't make our 53, another team will certainly snag him away.
In my opinion, the only time Maybin would play SS, this year, is if it's one of Ryan's disguise blitzes where he would drop all the way back to that position. Unless we're playing the Bills.
Haha prolly true. Jets try to put him on the practice squad, he ends up making the Pro Bowl with the Pats.
