i think the lb core looks solid, we lack an elite rusher (thomas/pace..pace is the best but he's only above average), but we have depth there it looks like and some of the younger guys could surprisingly develop but wow after this year, i cant imagine them inviting satele even back next year for initial preseason rosters o-line and protection looks terrible all around this pre-season, has actually for a lot of teams, but the jets have been terrible game in and out consistently, its worrying
He and Eddie Jones both looked real good. I wouldn't be shocked to see them both on the PS. I can see Rex really liking Eddie Jones. Both Bellore and Maybin should be on the final 53-man roster as far as defensive guys go.
I have to let my eyes heal now after that stinker of a pre-season game...even if it was game 4. HOLY COW! I do like what I see out of Bellore, McIntyre and DePalma...I think a whole heck of a lot hinges on how many DB's they decide to keep as to what other spots will be open to a guy.
I didn't get to see the game tonight. Did Satele just do nothing, or did he miss tackles and basically look inept?
He dispensed a couple of very thorough friskings. I can guarantee you if there was an armed Eagle out there tonight, Brashton Satele knew about it.
Poor tackling was one thing, the bigger issue was him being out of position on defense. If you watched Hard Knocks last year, recall when Rex and co were on the sideline saying what is this kid doing, he can't even line up right etc? It's still a problem a year later. It's not as bad as last year, but he still takes himself out of position, not to mention seems to react to slow at times and just doesn't...bring it. Bellore actually looks a bit smaller than his listed size, but he came hard in the hole tonight on goal line play and stood the back right up one on one and didn't allow him to shed/slide off. All the other guys, especially the LB's look to lay someone out, Satele just plays like he's lost and tentative. Not blasting the guy, he made it farther than most, but the guy while he has decent NFL attributes physically, just can't play in the NFL.
Looks like Maybin will be a lock. When was the last time you have seen that type of speed from our LBs? Damn, we lucked up and got ourselves a speed rusher. Welcome Maybin!
They probably should cut just about everybody who played last night but of course they can't. Even Tannenbaum said they may cut down to 50 and just pick up the best three people released over the next 2 days. He was being generous.
The entire group of 2nd and 3rd string OL should be marched to a cliff and pushed over the side- yes, they suck THAT much. Pray to god that nothing ever happens to Mangold because Bobby Felix sure isn't the answer.
Matt Kroul is even less of the answer. Lesser of two evils... Felix makes the team unless a vet is on waivers. On Maybin: why would we cut the guy who has shown us the most in the area we need the most help in? He's been in the league two years under Chan Gailey... on a team that really isn't conducive to producing young talent. Who have they produced in Buffalo in the last ten years? Posluzny was the closest thing they had and he couldn't stay on the field. Ashton Youboty who was supposed to be the next big thing? Leodis McKelvin? Now that could be the Bills being awful talent evaluators, but I think it has a little something to do with the staff.
I agree with keeping Mayblin, along with BALAWWW and McIntryre. Satele's grandpa is waiting for him to come back to the pizzeria tonight- as since we all know, Friday is pizza night and he'll be out of a job, out of the league, in an hour.
Cook hasn't impressed me at all this preseason ... i think Lankster deserves that last DB/ST spot for the DB's. Strickland as well wasn't all that impressive, but part of that could be getting used to the defensive scheme/calls after a year away? Bellore is a lock to stay ... I don't think Satelle or Jones did enough except for practice squad invites. I think Maybin made the choice between him and McIntyre interesting. Until Turner is back i don't think we have a single Olineman worth a depth spot though we know Ducasse is a lock to stay. Waiver wire hunting this weekend to fill that i hope. Willy earned himself a practice squad invite i think. Turner disappointed the last few games after a very nice outing game 1. Nice snag by Scotty McNight last night in the endzone, welcome to the practice squad. Guess i won't be shocked if the Jets only keep 4 WRs, and instead keep four TE's .... lets face it Mulligan, Cumberland & Baker all showed better hands than any WR's vying for a spot. I was hoping Gilbert might do enough to earn a spot ... and while he got some nice pressure a few times and blocked a kick, I don't think it was enough. Our Dline otherwise is very exciting ... can't wait to see Romo get buried week 1.
I know he won't make it, but Berning showed flashes last night. He's a guy that they could stash on the PS and hope he develops.
