I don't agree with junc very often, but he's right about this one. Let the current team have their due. Joe needs to time machine himself back to the 70's, where he's still relevant. Thanks for everything, Joe. But enough already.
I've been looking at this thread for a couple of days now and I am struck by the infantile attitude of MANY JETS fans toward the man who gave this franchise the only credibility it's ever had. Rex still hasn't won a Super Bowl, though he's talked about it a lot. Namath brought the American Football league and the NYJETS into the big time and helped to create the modern game. For that he receives your disdain and nasty jokes about the fact that he has aged, something we all do. I would like to see the poster who posted about Joe's shorts up to his arm pits, when that person is in his or her sixties if they aren't already there. The internet provides so much anonymity for you to hide behind. Joe Namath can say whatever he wants and no one should say a frigging word about it, even if you disagree with him. What would it cost you to respect the man that much? Not a damned thing but you've got to open up your yaps and let it fly, because you're children. Well kiddies, waiting for you down the road is old age and also some stoopid kid who will mock you for living so long. Based on the posts against Joe in this thread I'd say when it happens you'll have deserved it. Finally, I saw the SB game in '69. It was a piece of work by the entire team, led by you know who. Nobody gave the JETS a tinker's chance in that one but Namath said flat out they would win, you know, the guarantee. He made that stick. You? Your just fans sitting on your butts running your mouths. Show some respect.
All Joe has done for our franchise is embarrass it in recent years, we all appreciate what he did and the fact he is so overrated among old time Jet fans BUT I don't care what he has to say, I'm tired of his attention grabbing ramblings. It's been 40+ years, we want to talk about now not 1968.
You know I never thought of that. I dont believe in curses but if I did i'd have Joe Willy wacked by now. I think the curse lies is him if there ever was one. Cant really get mad though, Super Bowl III is not to be overlooked, its just hard to say for anyone born after 1969.
Namath is a bitch and all he does is bitching. The prick does NOT want the Jets to win a super bowl. Its obvious. He wants to be the lone icon of the franchise for as long as he is alive. This whiny prick's ego won't allow him to share the Jets only super bowl MVP award with anyone else. He can suck a horse dick!
And he invested that in Apple shares back in '69. Now its worth one billion gazillion fafillion shabdidodillion....yen.
I get the impression a classless peckerhead like Jets and Boys is the kind of poster who doesn't read any other posts on the threads he posts on. He just wants to post his childish rant, expects others to read it, and doesn't really discuss anything.
Mr Obvioius. Joe gets his "what I should know about the NFL" for dummies book and points out the obvious. Anyone with half a brain, even those that do not show up on the field...drunk..and try to kiss a woman interviewing him on live TV, would tell you that Plax is a gamble sign.
Okay, MBG, you are a mostly reasonable poster. Perhaps you can explain how Namath is doing something other than letting "the current team have their due." And what harm did he do? I mean other than to the super homeristic thin skins around here who will not abide ANY questions about the team. Of course.
I'm just tired of seeing Namath stick his 02. in every chance he gets. Believe me, I appreciate what's he's done (even though it happened before I was born) and I understand what he means to this franchise....but we don't need his opinion on everything either. I don't give a shit what he thinks about Burress. You don't see Joe Montana chiming in on everything that has to do with the Niners or Marino sticking his nose in Sparano's business whenever there's a TV camera around. Joe Namath is an icon for this franchise.....no question. But enough is enough....go play some golf, Joe.
Damn, that was some post. I also believe that Joe deserves more respect than any other player or coach in Jets history because he was the leader of the team that delivered a championship. But that respect doesn't mean we can't disagree with him when he chooses to criticize the current team though.
He was no doubt asked a question by a reporter. Would his answering a question bothered you so much if you agreed with what he said? It's also odd that some here say what he said was obvious, yet others take issue with WHAT he said. It doesn't add up, imo.
i'm not bothered by this one isolated incident....it's his whole M.O. over the last few seasons. I mean, that shit that went down with Suzy Kolber.... I thought it was funny. But from the franchise's standpoint, he looked like a fucking moron. He should continue to be an ambassador for this franchise though, because he's earned that right. But he doesn't need the spotlight, that should be reserved for the current roster and our coaching staff. Obviously, not everybody shares my opinion on this board. I just want to be clear that I certainly respect Namath for what he's done for this franchise.
Joe is Joe, he's entitled to his opinion. Plus while we might not agree with it, it doesn't mean he will necessarily be wrong. Regardless, we should all just wait and see what Plaxico is capable of (Joe included).
