The latest episode of bone head moves through social networks by athletes include Arian Foster "tweeting" a message to his faithful fantasy football owners that his hamstring injury will not hold him back in week one and eluded that his numbers for fantasy football will be as good or better than predicted. He also posted the actual MRI of his hamstring for all the world to see. (maybe someone can post this) Does anyone else have a problem with this? I think players are walking a fine line when it comes to matters of the fans turning on them and the league coming down hard on them as, in this case, the idea of gambling through fantasy football is being expressed in writing by a top player. Imagine being a Texan fan and your top player sends out information for the rest of the NFL and world to see about an injury that has a direct relationship with the team's success? If the NFL, and all sports for that matter, are not protected from ignorant actions like this, it may be the beginning of the demise of professional sports.
Miami, understand that I love fantasy sports. I just think this is awful for the NFL when players are focussed on things that dont relate to "team" and in this case promote gambling.
It's really hilarious how upset players, this year especially, get because they realize fans only care about their play on the field. Duh!!! Most of them don't know you otherwise. On a more serious note, this may be a HiPAA issue in the future. I unfortunately had to do a long, drawn out HIPAA training and I came out of it with one conclusion: They don't play!
From last week @ArianFoster 4 those sincerely concerned, I'm doing ok. 4 those worried about ur fantasy tm, u ppl are sick. #nfl So what the OP is referring too is probably him fucking with people.
I hope not. I would hate for one of our players to pull a stunt like this. When he tweeted that picture, he did not think of the ramifications it would have on his team or his opponents. The only good thing about Foster's tweet was that he did it for the fans, which is something we seldom hear about.
Yes, excellent find xm, but found this also (dont have the link): “People say I don’t care about fantasy football. I think it’s good for the game,” Foster said. “I’m on my mother’s fantasy football team, so I’ve got to do good.” Pete Rose is not in the Hall of Fame because he gambled on baseball. While this is not at the level of Pete Rose, it is still promoting gambling. Gambling came very close to taking away baseball. It has all but taken away boxing. Sorry but this is a "slippery slope" when players start to comment on gambling in their own sport, and tweet their personal fellings that become detrimental to their team and sport.
He actually told fantasy owners to fuck off in no uncertain terms. He's always been open with his fans, but he's been quite clear that he doesn't care how he affects fantasy football teams, aside from one joke about his mother. The MRI was posted in response to people who have been sending incredibly hateful messages to him about his injury. Yes. The Texans. The only people who should have a problem with a player tweeting about an injury are the people who run that player's team. You can't be serious. Fantasy football isn't gambling. It isn't as cut and dry as gambling on the outcome of a game, and the ability to influence an outcome or result (the entire problem major sports HAVE with gambling) is SEVERELY diminished, not to mention the stakes and amount of money gambled are more evenly spread and incredibly unlikely to stretch into amounts in which swinging results would become an issue. Injury reports aren't secretive for the majority of teams. It's not like Indy would have been running out on the field for Week 1 only to emit a collective gasp when they saw Foster in street clothes while some ring announcer screams "I DON'T BELIEVE IT! FOSTER WON'T PLAY! FOSTER WON'T PLAY! NEVER IN MY 30 YEARS HAVE I SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT! OH MYYYYY!" How exactly do you figure that? I'd love to see the stretched and faulty reasoning that could possibly support this conclusion. BTW, there was already a thread on Foster in the NFL forum where it belongs.
Chris Johnson took a knee making a smart football move and apologized to FF owners. It's nothing like gambling, I can see where some might think that but it's really not. Players want to play well for their own real teams and for their own self worth. i doubt they care about some $500 prize.
He's absolutely right. Fantasy football IS good for the game because it boosts viewership and fan interest. That doesn't mean he cares about his fantasy owners or how they do. He's been equally clear about that. If you wanted to make an argument about some vaguely threatening line between real and fantasy football, MJD would have been a much better example, although still shaky. If you really can't see the difference between fantasy football and influencing the outcome of a game for the sake of gambling, there's really no point to continuing a discussion. I haven't seen any players comment on gambling, and that's certainly not what Foster has done. You're wrong about boxing, BTW. Boxing has been diminished by a dearth of athletes choosing to pursue the sport, especially within this country. It has socioeconomic ties which have become diminished in recent years, so the talent level has slipped. The lack of top quality talent at the heavyweight level is especially to blame. However, there are promising young boxers coming into view right now who very well could right the ship, although admittedly not at the big money, big viewer heavyweight level.
He also told fantasy owners to STFU. MJD got shit on by fantasy owners for taking a knee against us 2 years ago, and he wasn't apologetic in the slightest. He's probably the most prominent fantasy owner among NFL players, even helping to host a show on Sirius, and he's the first to admit that players care about fantasy because of its effect on the interest level of a lot of fans. The OP is nuts if he thinks the NFL doesn't love fantasy football.
You're thrilled Arian Foster isn't a Jet because you would hate for one of our players to tweet an injury? I hated the tweet, but I'd have LOVED to have Foster and his contract on our team for this season. You really need to check your priorities. Fans and players interact all the time now via Twitter. It happens so often that it's not worth reporting. The only reason why this one was reported is because it was a controversial tweet.
Was that who it was? I couldn't remember who exactly. Yeah CJ tried to backtrack saying it was to the racists not all Titan fans. That was after he tried saying it was just the fake fans. Revis did the smart thing during his holdout and went no where near Twitter.
Yep, it would be awesome to have him on the Jets. Of course, this wouldn't even have been commented on had the OP not posted it in the Jets section. Anyway, my comment was on him tweeting an injury MRI and how I would feel if a Jet did that. Nice try trolling my comment.
if im a HC i definitely dont want my players tweeting MRI films. that being said it was funny. "you see all that white stuff? thats anti-awesomeness" (in regards to the mri showing the strain
