Normally, I never take the old guy's side, as old people creep me the fuck out. But as a HOF QB, I think he's plenty qualified to talk about WR's ability to run routes. I don't think he's predicting Plax will be shitty, but he's obviously noticed Plax is behind the curve with all this time off. Let's hope he and dirty gell as the season progresses.

PS we all know Joe nailed Suzy Kolber. She just played coy on camera.

You seem traumatized by what Joe said. He was no doubt asked a question by a reporter and answered it. I don't expect him to act like he's some super homer or a paid flack for the Jets' PR staff.

Get over it. He said what he thought. Just awful.

Year in, year out, I have to say the willingness to listen to anything bad about the Jets is probably lowest right now, right before the season starts.

I get it. We all want to be optimistic, and maybe this is the year.

If you listen to the negative comments here, they sort of contradict each other. Some say what Joe said is obvious. "Duh, Burress is old and has been injured alot! Tell me something I don't already know!"

Others think he's too old to make an observation. So that means he's saying something that is something far less than obvious? And "clearly" incorrect?

Others are implicitly saying that Joe should only be making homeristic statements. Who says? But more to the point, homeristic statements are more about optimism than realism.

The critics here don't add up to a coherent appraisal.

Namath has done more for this franchise than any other single individual. He's a Hall of Famer. He still has an eye for the game. It's classless for posters here to dump on him because they don't agree with what he says.

Let's not forget that ridiculous haircut. It looked like someone put a bowl on his head and cut around it. How do you go from Broadway Joe to bowl-head?

This "old fool" (17 point underdog) ended up guarantee-ing...."

    Namath's Jet's SB record: 1-0.

you do the math from there....

...what YOU don't get is the almost suicidal fallout from the NFL-dominated media that day...

    NFL = 2; AFL = ZIP!!

while the Raiders/Chiefs ("mad bomber" Lamonica/ Len Dawson=NFL HOF) gave props to the New York fuckin' JETS for putting the screws to the "NFL" ..... two great QB's who previously (with a smaller underdog point margin spit the bit) .....check out the "shutout" record of the Colts that year leading into Super Bowl III. Bear Bryant: "best athlete" ... Chicago Cubs: 50K signing bonus offering out of high school....in PA: all-state basketball.

Bryant had Namath "throwing" the ball down field to serve as a 'kicker' in the 'Tide's' KO drills...

Lombardi: "best pure passer" - wanna talk about SB 1 and 2 coach:

Madden: he (and Bradshaw) scared me the most of any QB..."

    your point?

check out Namath's "Marino-esque" bomb on opening day in '68' in Kansas City to Don Maynard ....backward dropback...Marino.. (check it out).

Btw, Namath buried the final 6:00 minutes of an eventual 20-19 Jets win....a season that ended up with a 16-7 win down in Miami.

junc, bottom line: Namath (-17) won the Super Bowl.

..what exactly was your point? .....

If it was'nt for Joe Namath the Jets would have nothing - absolutely nothing. He might be a crotchety old man that takes an hour to get a simple point across because he's gawking at the girl with a mic in her hand trying to think of a way to get her alone but without Joe Namath the Jets would be maybe the most insignifigant team in this league.
So all you Joe Namath bashers shut your mouths, stick your hand back down your pants like Al Bundy and watch the Jets make another superbowl run but at least you know the Jets are one and zero thats 1-0 in superbowls because of old man Joe!

Still not sure how that contradicts 1. He is old and 2. He acts like a fool sometimes.

Don't spout off some bullshit in an unreadable attempt at a paragraph.

I used to love Joe when he worked games: "That's just a dumb play. . ."

He's like our embarrassing uncle. He does dumb shit, but you love him anyway because he's family and he did a lot for you back in the day.

there is only one lombardi trophy, and only one jets qb with a ring.

as spike lee put it, there's stats and there's impact.

the super bowl became the big money-maker and event it is today because of the jets and joe willie.

he can say whatever the hell he wants. if you don't like it, so what?
nobody says we all have to agree on everything. :jets:

Look, dude, its not his fault the franchise has been so fucking lame and hapless that half a generation after he stopped lacing them up it has no one else to carry on as the face of the franchise. Ok, so now he's a little senile and embarassing. So's my grandma. I still love her for all the right reasons. If you can't accept Joe, why even bother being a Jet fan? Because of Bruce Coslet? Jeff Lageman? Herm Edwards?
