Although the game is not quite over yet, to borrow from Bob Raismann.... Dude of the game (defense): Kyle Wilson-I won't even mention the great tackle in the backfield or the hit on Eli to end the first half, the tackle on Victor Cruz was beautiful and saved the Jets from allowing 7 points. I give a lot of credit to Marcus Dixon for the tackle on Ware on 4th down, but the play by Wilson was the play of the game. Kid deserves to take a bow for his night. Honorable mention-Nick Bellore-Wow. Great game for this kid. Big sack to set up the blocked FG and made a great tackle for loss on the play before that. I believe I've seen him make at least 2 other tackles. Welcome to the team, rook. Dweeb of the night (this is offense): Wayne Hunter-Holy shit!! What a fucking boneheaded play. You go from a very manageable 3rd-and-2, close to FG range to 3rd-and-17 at midfield?? What a fucking retarded penalty. I know a lot of his game is derived from his fire and passion, but Jesus, no need for the penalty. Basically wiped a probable 3 from the board. Just to add...McKnight and Kerley look very, very good tonight, and Powell, with a nice recognition and cut on his TD. First team offense relying way too much on the passing game. Working shit out for the preseason? I hope. Defense....looked great. Bad missed tackle for Scott on Bradshaw, but Bart made a great TFL later in the drive to redeem himself. But, bad open field tackle miss on Bradshaw. How fucking great is David Harris, btw. He should make the Pro-Bowl this season.
Oh...just to add...only because I posted about it in the "things to look for..." thread the O-line had a very good game. Run game, eh...pass protection, pretty damn good. I listened to most of the first quarter on the radio, but I don't recall hearing Sanchez getting hit at all. Could be wrong, but these guys, other than Hunter's stupid PF, had a good night. No injuries either, very important.
Should have added Josh Mauga to the "Dude" list. Been thinking, seen him in a lot of plays. Nothing big, just consistent. Gonna be interesting to see if him and Bellore can both make the final 53.
Just what Kyle Wilson needed to boost his confidense. Thre were more than a few things to be happy about including a pretty good game by Vlad Ducasse as well

Good post. I agree. With regards to the OL (your 2nd post), Sanchez wasn't hit, but had some significant pressure on a number of plays and made some good escapes. The OL needs to improve both in the running game and in pass protection.
i personally liked these people in this order: 1) David Harris, STUD nothing else to say about him, earning every cent of his money 2) Kerley versatile player, good KR/PR, needs to ged used to being a receiver in this league, but i like what he brings in the wildcat formation can pass/run, then i saw he actually played QB in highschool, though brad smith played QB in college, i am not going to miss him! 3) Kyle Wilson improved his game a lot, nice tackle to save the TD 4) Nick Bellore don't know if he makes the team, but i definetly liked him, hope he can make as ST guy, but yet again we have lot of depth at the LB position ... He is what he is. Makes some mental mistakes on occasion and gets beat on occasion but overall he's an awesome #2 CB. Teams are going to be compelled to attack him with the type of strength we have everywhere else and that is not a bad thing at all. If he gets help you're going to be screwed and if he doesn't get help he totally shuts it down on his own at least half the time anyway. Those are still good odds. Sure Nnamdi is better but we can work with Cro quite well. Only having seen the end of the first quarter on I'd say Sanchez played a lot better than most people thought he looked. Wayne Hunter...yeah wtf was he doing all game but hopefully he'll step up. Ellis is our #2...who cares about #3? Care about #2.
yeah, about Cro you are right... i just wanted to see 2 shutdown corners on this team but on Ellis, as I see it, he is behind Sione and MT, MT started the game and played most of the snaps with the first team
Nice breakdown;only seen brief highlights, I am watching the game tonight Guinness and will look out for your analysis but this is very positive and lets keep our feet on the ground this is pre season.
Ellis is the guy long term and probably will be solidly #2 well before the season is over. As long as Sione doesn't go down in a hurry MT's skills or lack thereof should have very little impact on the team. If he does go down we're probably going to be in trouble anyway so it's not really worth worrying about. Much more important is Wilson's development. If he's a solid nickel corner that most teams can't exploit aside from the Patriots and a couple other teams we'll have a defense that you just can't do anything to. #1 wr doesn't exist. #2 wr is a low percentage completion, and #3 would be the same. TE/s can't work in the middle. Try to run on a Rex Ryan defense as your main plan, it makes me almost as happy as watching you throw the ball at Revis. I'm getting less and less concerned about our ability to bring pressure and Wilson's ability to be useful this year. That is an extremely dangerous combination, I think there's a good chance our defense will never have been better than this year...and that's saying something. Questions marks surrounding Schotty, Sanchez's ability to be consistent, Plax and Mason's ability to perform to past levels makes that the big area for concern. I'm not asking for an all time great O...we just need to stop being so fucking anemic and put a few points on the board early.
I didnt get to watch the game due to the time zone difference, how was the pass rush. Did the front 7 get any pressure on Elli or was it all thru blitzes?
They got some decent pressure on Eli, fairly consistently, too. As per the Rex/Pettine defense, a lot of confusing blitz patterns thrown at the Giants, which were effective and basically led to both of the INTs. They had a little trouble containing Bradshaw, but overall, I'd give the defense a B or B+. I, speaking for myself, was happy with what I saw on that side of the ball. Edit: If you haven't seen the game yet and plan on it....just watch number 52. He had a fucking great game. He is going to have a real breakout season. I pray for his health, that's the only thing that can hold him back.
A few thoughts: Bellore: Kid has pretty good instincts but is undersized. He needs to bulk up and add some weight and strength to that frame. He would be exposed in the inside power running game. Not fast enough to be an outside rusher. Hopefully, we can sneak him onto the practice squad and give him a year of an NFL strength and conditioning program. Wilson: Seems to understand the scheme MUCH better this year and is in better position. Several times this preseason he has completely taken away the underneath of his guy going across the middle as he knows he has safety help over the top. The one Cincy pick and a throw (Cruz???) last night were prime examples. Wilkerson: Might take some time with him. Maybe thinking too much out there. Not sure what kind of an impact he will have this year right now. Rapoti: Pretty impressed by him in all phases. He pushes the pocket and plays the run well. At this point I would give the greater share of reps to him and have Wilkerson spell him from time to time. Mauga: Keeps playing well. If one of the ILB's goes down for a significant period they will probably play more 4-3 than 3-4 so he won't see too much time but I'd be comfortable with him holding the fort for a limited stretch. McElroy: Can't help but be impressed with his poise, confidence and command at this point. Nice throw to Turner in the end zone who I thought should have come up with that catch. With Brunell out he has really taken advantage of his reps. I hope we can blow a few teams out to get him some regular season experience. I didn't catch who blocked the FG. Anybody know??
