I was waiting for one poster to say "it sounds like you wanted death!!" Good to see the TGG board passes the sarcasm test. lol
We had up to 750,000 CL&P customers w/o power in Connecticut. This storm was not over-hyped. NYC is lucky the storm hit where it did or it could have been a disaster.
Well we finally got our power back early this morning. We were about the only community in the seacoast that seemed to not have power. That inconvenience was about the worst of it. My basement barely got wet, much less start taking on water. Total dud for us. Vermont on the other hand... The pics and video of Brattleboro were pretty bad. Lot of them fancy covered bridges got washed away. Some serious flooding.
When it comes to stuff like that..no..it was not Murrell..totally agree. In this day and age..unless you see people hanging from street lights with rushing water under them holding on to two babies...a storm like this 50 years ago would have had hundreds of deaths. You cant win gauging potential. 300 years from now..people will still complain about the weather forecasts because the world has become so black and white. Weather will always be gray because it something we down here will never control..ever. With that said, I totally get those that bitch about fox,cnn and the Weather Channel and their HYPE.
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=df9_1314529907 I love that this asshole was willingly giving a report to the masses while covered in shit-laden sea foam.
I was hoping if anything came out of this it would be a day off from work. Fairfield, NJ had a mandatory evacuation last night and my job is by the Passaic River but still no dice.
Nothing really happened here, no loss of power, some leaves and a few branches down. The Bay is about 5 blocks from my house but it only came over about 50 yards. I went Canoeing today and it was about 6 feet higher than normal, it was great. Certain spots were like white water rapids, big difference from the normally slow creek.
Fairfield is screwed..Wayne, Pompton...there are so many areas around here that you can not even go 10 minutes either way without turning around. Will not crest until tomorrow..cant see things getting back to normal until weekend in places like Fairfield.
Might not have power for 3-6 days, fan-fuckin tastic... Screw you CL&P. Thankfully I know people with electricity.
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=888_1314627483 Check out these National Guard soldiers in NJ who underestimated the water depth.
Amazing that this one was around since 1870....That's insane and some great construction.
Maybe, perhaps, regardless of the type of vehicle you're operating, when the water IS OVER THE MOTHER-FCKING ROOF of your vehicle, it might be time to consider "Route B."
I have no power, nothing since 9 am yesterday. Sucks since nothing is down in my town but the town next to us on the same grid had a bunch of trees taking down wires. I'm currently at a McDonald's in a different town in the opposite direction, hopefully we get electricity again sometime soon.
Yeah, saw that clip on news reel where they were talking to Gov of Vermont about the flooding. There was another of Brattleboro showing the raging waters... I think they almost took out a 3 story building. That is some sick flooding. It is amazing the fatality has only been 1 so far. Probably a possible darwin winner.
"A 20-year-old woman standing with her boyfriend near rushing water Sunday was swept into the swollen Deerfield River, near Wilmington." Correct.
