This is a first...possible the whole entire state of NJ in orange. Thats at least an inch an hour. Anyway...this is a great radar to check out through the night. http://www.wunderground.com/radar/r...7&lightning=0&smooth0&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0
Just spoke with some family in Point Pleasant, Mac no idea where your parents are at but mandatory evacs in Point east of the train tracks or anybody within 500 feet of the Manasquan River which is essentially all of Pt. Beach. Also mandatory evacs all along Rt 35 south to Seaside, Bay Head, Mantaloking, Normandy, Lavallette, Ortley, Seaside. Barnaget Light Basically everything in Ocean County near the Ocean has been evacuated.
Whos parents? Mac? LBI/Seaside...the mets keep going back to those two as taking a huge hit because of the location. Hope your family is ok BB.
Here comes the NJ outages: About 22,600 JCP&L, PSE&G and Atlantic City Electric customers are without power in southern New Jersey, and an additional 1,500 PSE&G customers in Morris County, according to each utility's outage maps. Salem and Atlantic Counties are among the hardest hit. http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2011/08/hurricane_irene_update_south_j.html
This just in As Hurricane Irene prepares to batter the East Coast, federal disaster officials have warned that Internet outages could force people to interact with other people for the first time in years. Residents are bracing themselves for the horror of awkward silences & unwanted eye contact. FEMA has advised: “Be prepared. Write down possible topics to talk about in advance: zombies, movies, etc... Remember, a conversation is basically a series of Facebook updates strung together”
Getting a bite to eat..see you in a few. One observation. During the day today, Im sure like many, got few squalls that rolled through and the thing that popped out at me and even more so driving tonite, was how the rain just wasnt absorbing into the ground. Streets were puddling so easily. I just get the feeling that the flooding is going to be much much worse because of the well advertised ground saturation before this storm even got here. The after flooding is going to be a huge story for many days afterwards.
Thats even more scary than any radar I have seen. Not a huge facebook person here but opening up a 800 line to console those not able to get to their page would have made a ton of money. Next time.
Here in Northern VA (about 20 miles west of DC....near Dulles Airport) there is moderate rain and some wind. Mostly annoyed that local storm coverage is preempting the Patriots-Lions game. I think the storm will pretty much be past us by 2 or 3 AM. I'm optimistic that we'll avoid power outages. We'll see. Good luck to everyone in the NY/NJ area.

If I was some rescue personnell or emergency position I would do what I have to do, Im a doorman who doesnt plan on staying at the job too long. Therefore Im taking off as it is anything but a serious job. As for the people working tonight on the roads I have respect for them if theyre tryin to make ends meet but either way i hope they stay safe.
Cant blame you at all BC. Would hate to be working tonite. Many 50+ gusts showing up already in south/central NJ.

So it starts just when i get home to walk the mutt? I think. Not totally sure. The city dropped the ball closing everything down so early today.
lmao, that's fucking amazing I love when he goes "it's ridiculous how many people are driving around"..then a car slowly drives by him loaded with people
I just walked home from a friend's house in Queens. Block and a half, but I got soaked. Rain coming down hard, streets and sidewalks flooding, wind starting to pick up.
