What happens with these intense storms is that the eye wall breaks down and creates a new eye wall...something like a snake shedding its skin.

That isnt to discount what murrell and some others have stated...this storm has weakened but that was talked about last night with some of the models....but does it regroup before making landfall in nc. Thats the key. The next 12 hours will tell alot.

Now for us up north...I wouldnt exactly compare it to a summer noreaster AF but I totally follow the thought process. I would say that if the storm doesnt get back to above 110 mph before nc landfall occurs..yes..the 60-80 winds with gusts near 100 for NYC and west be a bit high..you could cut 10-15 mph off of all of those numbers. Still...those numbers would create incredible amount of power outages etc.

One thing that will not change even if the storm stays at the 100 and downgrades north is the rain...and with all the talk of wind and hurricanes...what will do many in is a constant 45 mph and 8-10 inches of rain..with some spots more. Winds create damage...rains and flooding combined with even low tropical storm winds create friggin chaos.

NO one said the storm was W's fault, jackass. They said his management of the RESPONSE was inadequate.

    IT was.

Just to add to what Jay said, the water off the coast of the Outer Banks was 88 degrees yesterday, via the Gulf Stream. That's like jet fuel for a hurricane.

His response to people, that.....did not evacuate with advance notice from an inevitable danger zone......(and...not to pick nits, First response is the responsibility of the state, and when asked to cede such authority, it was Gov. Blanco, that refused. But dont let facts get in the way of good hyperbole).

Hopefully someone can help me here. What does the dry air mean to this storm?

Yeah, interestingly enough, in the time since I posted that (and especially since the wall broke down before noon) the center of the storm has reorganized a bit (again, to my untrained eye). It also seems to have stalled a bit since touching the NC coastline. That's not good news either, as the longer it sits in the water, the worse the potential I assume.

Winds are really picking up here in northeastern SC. Def trop storm force gusts. Nothing really sustained yet. Been raining all day. Our worst is supposed to be around midnight to 2am area.

Please. Everyone knows that he only accepts calls from Jesus himself... and I don't think he is a member of TGG.

In the official NHC discussion (it was an earlier discussion from today) they are saying that no eyewall replacement will take place. That is really good news. Eyewall replacement signifies an intense hurricane usually a major one.

The absolute best site in my opinion is wunderground.com they have all the NOAA and NHC reports coalated in one place. It has maps, diagrams and discussions that will help the laymen and certainly the mentally challenged on thins site......shit just read your thread and it is a whose who of Northeast Tailgating drooling all over themselves retards......... basically everyone that posted in this thread...........lmao
