I like to hear your thoughts on possible Rookies of the year. My offensive rookie of the year: Mark Ingram................with Bush gone I believe Ingram will shine in New Orleans. I hope he can stay healthy, he recently banged up his knee, but is suppose to be fine. I had a difficult time voting for AJ Green with his QB situation. My defensive rookie of the year JJ Watt.............I think he's going to be a force in that much improved Texan's defense. Watt's teammate Reed could also be in the running. Mo Wilk may show he should have be drafted higher than #30.
Good thread topic I would say my Offensive rookie of the year would be Torrey Smith. I think having a speed guy with Joe Flacco at QB is going to make him very dangerous. Defensive Rookie, I kinda wanna go with Patrick Peterson, but I think he is going to have a bit of a curve. Id say Cam Jordan
It's tough to pick who the DRY is going to be but how can you count out Julio Jones because of his "QB situation"? I can see your argument with AJ Green but have you seen Julio Jones play during the pre-season? He might not win ORY but I expect him to be neck-and-neck with Mark Ingram all season. In fact, I expect Julio Jones to be the favorite until Mark Ingram takes over as the featured back.
I do expect Julio Jones to have a good year, just on his ability. You're right, Jones could be in the running. I should have said I believe Roddy White will make most of the plays and Turner being the feature player running the ball......so Jone's chances could suffer. Ingram and Thomas are going to get the workload, Sproles will just be a 3rd down/situational player.
Looking the have some shockers (sorta) here to stray away from.the general consensus . My offensive rookie of the year: Daniel Thomas, RB, Miami. Yeah i hate the Phags too but the RB competition is minimal for Thomas in Miami. If he avoids injury he will have a solid year I believe ( 900 Yrds 7 Tds.) . Even with Bush they need a RB that can run through the tackles and with an above average Miami line I like his chances to get alot of touches. My defensive rookie of the year Akeem Ayers, OLB, Titans. A former draft favorite of mine I expect great things from Ayers in a solid 4-3 system. I'm predicting with an already solid 4 front Ayers will rack up a nice amount of plays stopping the run and getting to the QB. He's already having a great camp and will start at strong side backer. I say he stats up ( 3.5 sacks, 92 tackles, 1 INT)
I've really soured on Daniel Thomas recently. The Dolphins are planning on making Reggie Bush their featured back (let's see how long that lasts) and apparently part of the reason they just signed Larry Johnson is because of DT's ineffectiveness in short yardage situations (yeesh!). Now there's a chance that DT could win ORY (if Reggie Bush gets hurt early) but I don't see that happening with the Dolphins QB/OL situation. Good sleeper pick. 4-3 OLBs don't usually win DRY (although Brian Cushing did recently) so you won't see many people picking Ayers. Props to you if he wins it.
I actually heard somewhere LJ was a former Idol of Thomas's and the Dolphins are bringing him in as a mentor/ short yardage back. I think Reggie will be utilized all over but I dont see him getting any touches over DT unless his production is way down, they want Thomas to break out and be there future. Now there QB situation sucks but I think their OLine is improved and they might be able to gain some productive blocks and holes for DT. We shall see of course. I actually think he will stun many on how effective he can be as a 4-3 OLB, he may not be flashy this year but he will be productive and I hope the NFL can see that early, his coverage skills, solid tackling, and pass rush moves all are great combinations for a successful 4-3 OLB. I think Ayers can be great things in Tennessee. Thanks for the credit btw man.
Dammit my DROY was Watt too. OROY can be a handful of guys. AJ Green is a long shot, so I'll take him.
ORY: Mark Ingram (has the best opportunity) DRY: Robert Quinn (could be several guys but Quinn's my favorite)
OROY: WR AJ Green(Outside of Gresham, they don't have many targets to throw to in Cincy so by default Green will be the go to target and will be the recipient of a lot of looks) DROY: DE JJ Watt(I agree with WW85, I just see an 8-10 sack season right out of Watt to start his career. He's relentless at the attack, and his high motor is going to be evident.)
This seems too be the solid choice, if Ingram can gain the most touches on that powerful offense, he's a clear cut winner ten times over. This seems interesting too me actually, Chris Long had one hell of a year last season for the Rams, he will now be gaining alot more double teams, which means Quinn is put in 1 vs 1 situations, and with the plethura of pass rush moves he posses and high level of run stop ability he could surprised many. Solid choice.
I don't think Robert Quinn has great odds of getting it but I'd just love to see it happen. The guy (in my opinion) was the best player in the draft and got discounted by a benign tumor that never affected his play in college. He's going to have to beat out James Hall during the season but if he does he's got a great chance with Chris Long on the opposite side and Steve Spagnuolo calling the defense.
This looks homerish coming from me, but I actually believe they'll have good shots at it. ORY - Ingram(he's gonna rack up tons of goal line TDs) DRY - Marcell Dareus(he's not even playing like a rookie)
ORY: Mark Ingram (obvious choice - though if he plays a lot I could see Blaine Gabbert getting a lot of votes if the Jags do well, I would have said AJ Green until i saw a couple of pre-season games) DRY: Da'Quane Bowers
OROY: Atlanta WR Julio Jones - great situation playing with a talented QB and opposite a true #1 wideout. He'll have a chance to put up big numbers. DROY: Philadelphia S Jaiquan Jarrett - surrounded by tremendous talent in the defensive backfield. I think his INT numbers could be high. San Diego's Marcus Gilchrist is another guy that has a chance.
Its true, they'll never give it to a 3-4 DE. But I do think he'll be the best rookie defensive player this year. Let's go with his teammate Brook Reed.
