I know how much everyone loves a punter so thought it time we discuss the punting duel at it's half way point. If you don't give two hoots about punting then you wouldn't have opened this thread.

    TJ Conley vs Chris Bryan

Obviously I'm pulling big time for the Aussie to win the job, so here is my case at this stage

TJ has punted 7 times this pre-season and 4 of those have been touch-backs.

Bryan has punted 6 times with no TBs

    Advantage Aussie

TJ's average is 43.3, Bryan's is 42.5 HOWEVER, because of all his TBs TJ's net average is 30.9, the worst of any punter in the league this pre-season.

Bryan's net average is a respectable 38.7, good enough to rank him 11th.

    Big advantage Aussie

When their punts are returned both have similar ave ret yards (around 4yards)

Bryan's first punt in game one was a fizzer, which I put down to first time nerves. Since then he has been above average, excellent hang-time around 4.5sec and showed that he has the touch required to not out kick coverage or blast into the end-zone.

So far I have the Aussie ahead. I am extremely biased though.

On two of those touchbacks, TJ Conley punted the ball inside the five yard line. The first time, Brodney Pool failed to keep it out of the endzone. The second time, he had an unlucky bounce that just barely hit the pylon. My money's still on Conley.

We could probably pay the Aussie guy in fake money and he wouldn't even know it.

Nitpicking here...if you're talking about the Bengals game it was Cole who didn't catch the punt. I was screaming at the tv like a lunatic when that happened.
The punting "battle" has been atrocious. Conley's "winning" by default.

^Relax....its the preseason. You'll get plenty of opportunities to lose ur voice during the regular season.

The punt that I was thinking of definitely happened in the Texans game. Was there a third one?

Just verified the punt I was talking about, it was his first punt of the pre-season (1:08 left in the first quarter).

is Tom Tupa still alive? Let's sign him.

Neither the aussie or TJ have impressed me but as long as they don't choke in the playoffs like weatherford did I'm fine with whoever they pick

It was after our 1st drive in the 2nd quarter. Conley punted and Marquice Cole was standing right on the 2-yard-line and it just went right through his hands and into the end zone. Not that it was Conley's fault there, but that's a 19 yard net. Big whiff by Cole there. I didn't see the whole Texans game, so I must have missed the one you were referring to.
Oh....ok, I saw your edit. And yes, I was still at work when that happened.

So now it seems like there was only one that was totally Conley's fault (the one that he boomed 51 yards into the endzone during the Texans game).

The Aussie has had very good hang-time, around 4.5 seconds and apart from one 19 yard return has kept returners at bay.

One was fumbled but recovered and I'd like to know from any eye witnesses if he punted a floater or drop punt rather than the standard spiral.

Neither guy is very good. I think Conley looks a little better but I don't see other guy lasting more than a year.

You need a flexible groin to punt well, just saying.

Yeah, tj had one stuffed up by pool, it was so easy to keep in play but fucked it. I haven't been that impressed with the Aussie either and I'm rooting or him too. It's close so it will come down to any mistakes in the last 2 games. Bryan doesn't excite like Graham did. Us Aussies love the skill of kicking a footy.
