They have been a lot of false alarms, but the ones that do hit.... the beach is still just coming back after Hugo. Floyd was supposed to come in as a 5 and weakened. But it stalled and the flooding was amazing. Tell her to plan anyway. The last major one to hit left power out for 11 days.
Hurricanes just don't hit south florida anymore... We have gone years without a good one coming to us...
This track..and what it does after landfall is going to be a huge problem for many in the Northeast. Right now, and the track has shifted another 100 miles north, it would make landfall around the Topsail Island area (by our home..wonderful) and head due north/northeast through Eastern Virginia, Maryland and along the NJ/PA border. If the trend of the models continues east, then you get the Baltimore/Philly/Nyc/Boston track..which is beginning to look like a possibility.
Its a huge storm so it might affect the game Saturday night...but the worst should be sometime Sunday. Thats the general consensus right now. Sounds like there is a little fear in those words jon? Are you worried? Are you a believer? Even though you piss on weather...you know you will always be one of my favs.
This latest track..if it comes true..has a category one storm directly over NYC. Unheard of. Cant be. That would be a disaster for the metro area. Will be over the city about 8pm Sunday. If that were to happen..although broken up by land...NYC and surrounding areas would get a taste of the eye of the storm. Where the weather just stops temporarily. No wind..no rain. Experienced that once in my life. Wild..then the storm picks up again. Too busy to post pic..but here is link. http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/54098/hurricane-irene-to-slam-into-t.asp
haha the reason I ask is Im on a plane to San Fran as we speak. Im coming home on the redeye Friday night so I was hoping for an uneventful Saturday morning JFK landing. Sound slike Ill be fine
It looks like it has shifted out to sea a bit more from the projected path this am. Are we still likely to get hit pretty good here in Myrtle beach?
Hey weathernutz, can I get in and out of Charlotte on Saturday morning? On a trip to Mo. and Irene has got me by the shorthairs..
Local weather in Charlotte has the storm missing the area by a few hundred miles to the East. It'll probably be sunny when you get there.
Even if the storm doesn't make landfall near, it is HUGE and will definitely be causing delays up and down the coast.
