I was with you until you said Taylor Mays. I'm not sure he's better than Eric Smith.

I do think our safety play is overrated. Leonhard and Smith are hard workers but I think they leave a lot to be desired. Leonhard has good technique but is just too small IMO. Smith just isn't a starting safety. I think he's a good backup but not a starter. He's just too slow and gets lost in coverage. Some people judge secondary based on tackles. To me, the number one thing I want my secondary to master is coverage. Tackles, sacks, forced fumbles are great. I like a well rounded guy who can help in the run game too, but pass protection is first and foremost to me. It's kind of like an ugly woman with pretty eyes...I don't want it.

    Where has Strickland been?

Cant remember seeing him on the field in either game, or hearing about an injury.

Yeah, I know it's preseason, and he was all over the place. Hard to gauge but he didn't look especially scary to me. though that one wrap up tackle in front of the endzone was nice. I wonder, though, if he should have made a better effort to disrupt the pass. And he was giving a lot of cushion, though I don't know if that was him or coaching.

Would have taken a tremendous throw to complete that, not sure if it would have went for a TD

I remember him getting beaten on the touchline for a 39 yard gain in the third quarter.

Kinda off topic, but who are the top LB prospects for next year?

Also great game for Kyle Wilson that I saw, he is playing guys a lot tighter than I remember last year and he has had some nice tackles too, he should be much improved this year

agree about e. smith - he has picked up his game immensely since leonard went down last year. gotta think that factored into letting digs go.

gives the jets some bad ass talent on the back end of the D.

though i am still concerned about the lack of perimeter speed at LB. harris can get outside but thats about it for the front seven. imo thats the only achilles heel i see.

Can anyone comment on how Wilk/Ellis looked last night, I am hoping to watch the game this week one day. Is Ellis showing anything like big Jenk when healthy. With Wilk did he look better this game than last.

Ok..He was playing under man....Leonard was playing for the top...That's like saying if the ball was under thrown Leonard would have been beat...Football 101

I have no problem stating facts..If he was beat, he was beat. But not on that one...

Ellis commanded double teams from the back up units. I guess that's a positive.

Are you serious? Darren Sharper? Coming off his worse season as a pro, regardless of how many games he played. He also had an off season surgery, and is a yr older than last year. Pats are looking at him and I hope to god they sign him. He has nothing to offer.

As for Taylor Mays, 49ers wanna trade him after just one season. Bears wanted him to switch to OLB if they traded for him. What does that tell you?

Vince, good to see you back.

That poster isn't known for his football acumen.

Your brother's tackle saved a TD on shipley when the blitz didn't get there. That was a pretty hit.

    He's looking good out there.

Wilson's coverage was perfect on that play. He's playing very well, much better than last year. I also love what I've seen from Strickland. This guy is a great tackling CB. I remember that from 09.

Welcome back Vince. K-Dub appears to have stepped it up this offseason. the last two games he seems much improved over his already solid playoff performaces.

For those unawares.... surviveone is Vince Wilson, Kyle's brother. He has all the confidence in the world in his brother, and K-dub looks like he is ready for a stellar journey this year.

That was my read on it too. And if somehow that pass had been on the mark leonard would have exploded the receiver.

That said, he did look a little slow getting his head around in the replay. Way better than last year though.
