Um, no. 45-3 was an aberration. RR ran an inordinate amount of zone coverage and Brady sliced it up accordingly. RR overanalyzed his approach and paid for it. We all know how the next game went, and I don't know how that tells you BB solved Rex Ryan schematically. 3-2.
I don't think either team "solves" another schematically. Football is too dynamic for that, and execution is too important. Any pro scheme can beat another if the players execute. We beat the Patsies in the playoffs because our D-line ran over their O-line, and because our linebackers were able to keep up with their tight ends. Rex wasn't the first guy to try clogging the middle and sending minimal rush against the Pats. It just worked that day, because our talent came through. The opposite happened during 45-3. Rex wasn't outschemed - the players just shat the bed. Scheme is nice, and we fans love it because it's something we can imagine ourselves doing (as opposed to playing), but your guys gotta execute too, and if the other team executes better, then they can win regardless of scheme.
45-3 was largely due to Leonhard going down and the D being confused about what they were meant to be doing. Rex talked about it before the playoff game - he tried to run a gameplan the D couldn't handle without their 'QB' to direct them.
It seems to me that good preparation for an NFL season would include having an effective backup for your defensive signal caller.
We do. You may recall seeing the effects of that in the last competitive game your team played. Unfortunately, his understudy stepping in two days before the game wasn't conducive to maximum effectiveness. Are you going to be this fucking tedious all season?
Wait.... what? Have you seriously convinced yourself that the Jets won the playoff game at Foxboro on the strength of a botched fake punt call by the Patriots?
I am saying that the two teams were playing at more or less the same level that day. The game was decided by one score. Ultimately such games are usually decided by plays like this.
Mods, can we just have one thread or sub forum where we can dump the massive piles of Pats homer shit like this that idiots like Felcher seem to want to spread across the Jets board, please?
This is the biggest crock of shit. Keep telling yourself that bud. The Jets dominated that game right from the beginning. You could tell that as soon as Brady was picked that the momentum for the Jets really picked up. It may have been a one score game but it was never as close as the score indicated.
In all the years I have been a football fan I have NEVER heard a 42 point blowout attributed to ONE player missing the game due to injury.
All the year, you mean like in the past decade? Brady got roughed up by getting sacked 5 times and was never the same.
Yes, the Jets were so totally dominating that the Patriots had more yards of offense, more first downs, and more time of possession.
Oh also Brady threw that INT to my boy David Harris. And the Jets coverage resulted in 3 coverage sacks 2 from Ellis and one from Pouha
