Cotchery really screwed himself over. Took a paycut and he's going to a team that'll give him a smaller role than the Jets. Plus there's no history with him and the existing players & coaching staff so they won't hesitate to drop him or cut him in the future. Seeing the way this FA period played out ... Cotchery & Edwards totally played themselves.
Damn, yeah, he certainly did. I respect him for thinking he ought to be a #2, and looking for the opportunity elsewhere, but it sure would have been better for everyone if he stayed. Sucks.
That's too bad for him. Going to the steelers doesn't mean he's a 4th receiver at this point in his career. He rolled the dice and it didn't favor him. I'd be surprised if he's still a 4th receiver next yr.
totally overplayed his hand with us he had the #3 reciever job all but locked down and he would have gotten his fair chance at targets, in pitt he is the 5th reciever and he may not even crack the gameday roster some weeks especially if pitt has injury issues at other positions
I'm a fan of the guy but he screwed himself. If he is lucky, he might find a more favorable situation next offseason.
What happened to being a team player? OK forget that, it's a business right? If it's a business then do your job! You're a slot receiver! Ohh, your a team player then you're a slot receiver!!! The Jets just payed you $12 mill. Now for 2 mill a year you're a slot receiver!
Myth - All players want to play for Rex Ryan and the Jets. They will even go so far as to give a discount for a smaller role than they would have on a less competitive team. False. All players want to play for Ryan and the Jets so long as teams that have contended for a decade, such as the Eagles, Steelers and Patriots, are not interested. Those are the teams that get the discount. The Jets may be there some day, but they are not there yet.
In some ways you are right, the Jets are building a great team the last few years and in the not so soon future the Jets will be on this list....The Eagles shouldnt be on this list either
He's not right at all. If the money is the same they would much rather play for Ryan than any of those other teams he mentioned. It's still about the money.
I blame his agent. His agent has to understand the market, and his client's value in the market. Then, he has has to set realistic expectations, and go out and get the best possible deal.
To be fair from 2000 to 2010 the Eagles won their division 7 times and came 2nd twice - they have been a siuccessful franchise the last 10 years or so.
It is about being a class organization, as well as wins. And also about how much respect your front office gets from the agents. Not just about the team make up or how well your scouts identify talent, or the Jets, Colts and Ravens would be included in that group. Players will not go out of their way to play for you if the man that represents them is your enemy.
Why did Cotch ask to get released because he was a 3rd WR and then go to Pitt where he will probably be #4?? What a moron. He was our #3 receiver who made big plays for us, not to mention he returned punts. He had it great here and now he totally screwed himself. I hope he realizes that he made a mistake.
Myth: You have a clue about what you're talking about. Fact: You're a clown with no knowledge of football.
Cotch probably felt that his tenure with the team and all he had done had earned him the opportunity to be the Jets number two if the spot was available, and signing Burress told him that he did not deserve it. it wasn't just about the fact that he didn't want to be the number three, it was that he felt it was a "slap in the face" to all the hard work he put in with the team and his team attitude, so he'd rather be even less somewhere else than be less than he felt he should be with the Jets. is it cutting off your nose to spite your face? kind of. but their is validity in his position if he felt he deserved to be more than the number three for the Jets.
He was just paid $16 million. He moped like a bitch, now with Plax hurt we could use him. He's a bigger douche than Ellis.
