Seriously? You're concerned about our depth on the O-line? I can understand a concern with Hunter stepping in for Woody, but the depth along the line is virtually identical to last season. We only carry 7 OL on the active roster and Felix may go to the inactive. Ducasse and Turner are the only backups who matter.

DL isn't much different either. Add in Wilkerson and Ellis and subtract Vernon Gholston and Matt Kroul and the unit looks remarkably similar to last year's.

Mauga just might surprise this year.

He was great on ST. I don't think he's going to be a impact player, but if he's gotta spell either ILB he won't be a liability out there.

I have to disagree here .... Turner & Ducasse are set as our Oline depth, with Turner being able to play all three interior positions, and Ducasse being able to play OG or OT.

Dline imo is one of our DEEPEST positions ... i expect to see Ropati, Dixon & both rookies get alot of snaps .. and whoever wins the 7th spot (guessing we keep 7).

And while i might be willing to agree on the LB argument - it seems Rex & Co. are pretty excited by Westerman, McIntyre, Bellore etc .. etc. I am going to have to say they might have a clue what they are talking about when it comes to defensive players.

Damn I love our team. Excited to see what we have with our DEs, but a little nervous as well. Bit of an unknown there.

I love our DL depth, but out LB depth is pretty scary. I like Mauga a lot though.

I agree. That's why I said the team was quite high on him. I assume he was laughing because neither player has much (or any, in the case of Bellore) experience at the pro level. At some point, however, when you've committed your money to the core of a competitive team, you have to rely on unproven talent to round out your depth chart. It's an excellent sign that the team feels it can rely on Mauga and Bellore inside, but it's going to make some fans nervous to see names they don't recognize.

it is similar to last year's depth : OF WHICH I was concerned about.

thankfully we didn't have any major injuries last year.

obviously every team is f'd when a major lineman goes down to some degree, but look at the Pats they have to ability to plug in guys who are serviceable when a Matt Light goes down, or a Mankins holds out. They actually have had a lot of injuries there as well.

God forbid a D'Brick is out (even a game) you are comfortable with these nobodys?
I would think they would put Hunter at LT and Ducasse at RT.. about the best option, but I wouldnt want to be Mark Sanchez that day.

How about if Harris goes down. You are comfortable stopping the run with Josh Mauga at MLB? especially with a DL that is somewhat of a question mark.

you cannot be serious by claiming you are happy with this depth. even Rex would say its a concern

Really? Show me where Rex said he's concerned with the depth.

I feel perfectly fine with Turner subbing in along the interior if needed. Hunter isn't as good of an option subbing at LT as Vollmer would be for the Pats, but Vollmer's also being groomed as the future at tackle. The Pats have an extra starter at the position because they NEED an extra starter at the position. Ducasse is that guy for the Jets. He obviously struggled last year as they tried to shoehorn him into the guard spot, but we have no idea where he's at right now.

Like I said before, ILB is a complete unknown, but the coaching staff loves what it sees in Mauga and Bellore. I trust their judgment since I haven't seen either one yet this offseason. If it's a question mark for the CS, they won't sit pat. They'll pick someone up after roster cuts for depth.

I still think you're crazy with regard to the DL. We upgraded that unit from where it finished last season.

For the record, Rex agrees we have MORE depth on the D-line than last year:

Kind of like how when Woody went out, and the Jets "plugged in a guy" named Wayne Hunter and made it to the AFCCG?

Or the year before when our most important defensive player at the time, Kris Jenkins, went out and we plugged in Pouha and made it to the AFCCG?

Rex wouldn't say anything publicly about being concerned about anything LOL we all know Rex, but I bet its something he talks about privately with his staff and Mr. T.

last season he ranted and raved about our "depth players" this time of year but moved quickly to get a Trevor Pryce for example.

As for our DL I think perhaps its upgraded for the future (a long time coming too) but I felt much more comfortable going into last season on a game to game basis. I think Wilk will be really good, but maybe he wont... maybe hes injury prone, etc. who the hell knows its a question mark.

I dont think the Jets are done though, I think they will once again move quickly to pick up some players that dont make the final cuts elsewhere or will make a trade. I dont think this will be our Week 1 depth chart because its pretty scary in the trenches if thats the case

I can't remember what coach said it but the saying is''depth is great until you have to use it''.

On that note I am not worried about the depth.unless a particular unit has 3 or more major injuries we shoild be fine

How did we not have any major injuries last year? We had two key injuries off the top of my head. It might be hard to remember them because the depth on the team stepped in and got us to the afccg anyway.

I don't know how anyone feels like our DL is worse than last year. Unless guys fall flat on their faces it's an upgraded line.

I actually think Kerley is going to be in the starting lineup this year. I was even mentioning to a co-worker earlier today that I wouldn't be shocked if he took Burress' spot. That's best-case though, and I wouldn't go betting money on it.

The only spot where I really feel the depth chart is wrong is K. Novak is hitting almost everything and Folk isn't. We'll see next week when they both have a chance to kick in real situations, but right now I'd be shocked if Folk were wearing green after Labor Day.

I'm excited to watch this team play. I expect quite a bit from guys who aren't household names and from our draftees.

Also, regarding E.Smith, Rex adores him. It's probably the attack dog mentality he plays with. Rex gives him instructions, like "hit that QB" and Smith does it. I think we're going to see a lot of rotation in the secondary this year. (I actually commented to my co-worker recently that I think we're going to play a lot more nickle and dime packages this year. Just a gut feeling.)

I think I'd be more comfortable if Patrick Willis was our back-up linebacker, but as back-ups go, I'm very comfortable with Josh Mauga. The dude did something to catch my attention every time he was on the field.

There's no reason anyone should be LOLing at this guy.

ADDED: Here's a little something for you if you didn't spot him last year.

so because the Jets made it to the AFC championship game and lost, we can assume the roster is perfect this year?

if the Jets had won the last 4 superbowls I would still be concerned about this* roster's depth if that is indeed what were looking at come week 1 (I dont think it is)

I didn't even think about Jenkins, that makes 3. Is everyone seriously forgetting we lost Leonard and woody at key points in the season?
