Pretty much as expected. I don't know that we'll see much movement from this except maybe P/K. It will be interesting, however, to see where those final 7 spots go. It doesn't seem like we have much competition going on at starter OR primary backup, but those end roster spots should be interesting. I'll be interested to see Turner and Payne. One of them will be the 5th, and the other likely cut since they bring the same basic skill set.
Pretty much what was expected.. My quick thoughts: - Kerley being both the punt and kick returner is pretty cool. Westhoff clearly loves him. - I think Gilbert and Tevesau will be battling it out to be the 7th DL on the roster. Our DL is going to be much better than last year, much improved depth. - Bellore and McIntyre both have a pretty good chance to make the team I think. - Wasn't Brian Toal an OLB? Not that it really matters I guess.. - Zinger wasn't listed at TE, while Cumberland was listed as the #2.. they definitely have hopes for that guy.
Also Patrick Turner and Logan Payne both listed ahead of Scotty McKnight.. I assume he's ticketed for a practice squad spot this year.
Probably next year or if Holmes, Plax or Mason get injuryed. I expect Kerley to contribute mostly on teams and on occasion in 4 man sets.
I doubt it. Rex was pretty adamant that Smith is going to start and have his ST duties scaled back. I wonder if part of his contract negotiation involved Rex promising him a starting spot or increased playing time or something. Purely speculation by me of course. Personally, I thought Pool was much better than Smith the 2nd half of last season.
The depth chart only goes 3 deep. Powell will certainly make the active roster and be inactive each week.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him sometimes in 3 wide sets. Rex said the top 3 were a fluid unit; Mason isn't strictly plugged into the slot. Depending on the situation, I could see Kerley in with a combo of 2 of the other 3.
Kerley will get on the field as a 3rd wr sometimes. Brad smith saw a few snaps a game at wr last season and he couldn't even play the position very well.
Anybody hear anything current about Jarron Gilbert? He got a lot of playing time in the last game of 2010 season vs Buffalo and I liked what I saw.
Makes the endless Ellis and Cotch whining rather moot, unless one is mentally impaired. (cue #28Martin)
FWIW, the team loves both Mauga and Bellore. Of course, the former has incredibly limited game experience and the latter's a rookie. That's what we're going to be left relying on, though, when we commit so much money to a few players. Can't have proven depth everywhere.
seeing it laid out like that makes me concerned about the Jets depth. not much behind key positions (OT/OG) (DL/LB) gonna have to cross our fingers again that we have yet another year of luck in the injury dept. so far Mr. T. has been playing with fire with depth by trading away later round picks and it shows. so far the dice has come up friendly though so lets hope it continues.
Smith will make 1.5 million this year as part of a 3 year deal. Pool will make 575k this year on a 1 year deal and both just signed in the last week or two. No way will Pool ever be listed as the starter before the season begins. Things might change after 5 or 6 weeks but not sooner and it doesn't really matter anyway as both will see plenty of time. It would make Tannenbaum look idiotic to make Pool the starter at this point.
