My draft is about a month away, but I've been thinking about who I want to keep. I get 3 keepers, so right now I'm thinking of the three below. Just note I have the 12th (last) pick in the draft since I won last season. 1. Josh Freeman - 13th round 2. LeGarrette Blount - 16th round (FA pickup otherwise I would franchise him) 3. Roddy White - 2nd round So my question for everyone, should I keep Maurice Jones-Drew instead of RW? MJD was my 1st rounder 2 years ago, so this would be my last year that I can keep him (we have a 3 year keeper rule). I'm leaning more toward RW since MJD is coming back from an injury. Plus RW lit it up last year. Also, there's till the slim chance that I can redraft MJD in the first round (of course the same could be said for RW).
Depends on whether you think you can get a stud running back with your 12th pick if you decide to go with White. If you can't and you're not too worried about MJD's knee, you should keep him and try to pick up Rashad Jennings (as insurance). Hopefully you can then pick up a stud receiver with your 2nd round pick. BTW, is this a snake draft or would you not pick again until the end of the 2nd?
MJD is better value at the 12th pick than Roddy at the 13th. Easy decision for me. Also, MJD will be difficult to replace at the 12th overall, but Roddy would be easy.
I would probably tale Roddy White over MJD at this point with his injury concerns, but for the 12th and 13th pick I probably wouldn't take either of them. What are some of your other options?
I'm huge on taking RBs early but this is the year you can make off like a bandit by going Roddy early and snagging Rashad Jennings really late hoping for MJD's knee to self-destruct
Based off what NickD said, I'm guessing this is a snake draft. In that case, the 1st/2nd round distinction is irrelevant since 11 teams are going to draft before your first pick (since you're going MJD/13th pick or 12th pick/Roddy no matter what). This makes your decision easier since all you're contrasting is the value of MJD at the end of the 1st vs. the value of Roddy at the same spot. If you think an elite running back will be available, pick Roddy. If you think an elite receiver will be available (and you're not overly concerned about MJD's knee), pick MJD.
Ugh... that sucks. Go with Roddy White. Much better value at 24 and Roddy will be gone before 24, maybe even the 1st round in your type of league (I've been playing in a similar type for 4 years now and coincidently also defending champion with Blount as a last round keeper). Hopefully you can get a killer QB or WR at 12. I might even consider dropping Freeman and going with MJD, because there will be plenty of QBs available worth as much as Freeman, but not many RBs with MJDs potential.
Yeah, go with Roddy White. He usually goes in the first round, anyway. Hopefully you'll be able to get a solid back with your 12th pick to replace MJD.
Good point about Freeman. At 13th round he'd be a steal, but decent QBs aren't all that hard to find usually. The problem with our draft is that there are so many keepers (3 x 12 = 36) that a lot of the better players are taken before the draft even begins. That's also one of a the reasons why I opposed going from 2 keepers to 3. As a result, the first round is more like a 3rd or 4th round than a first round. It may be best to take MJD and White considering the non-snake draft. I just wish I could watch MJD in the preseason instead of going into the season blind. EDIT: I just realized I also have Felix Jones on my team as well from last season. Seems like he's slated to be #1 in Dallas and he'd be a 6th rounder for me (FA pickup, unfortunately they keep their draft spot). Maybe I should do Jones, Blount, White. Beh, so many decisions.
Yeah, I'm stuck deciding between two of Ryan 7th, Eli 4th, Blount 16th, Forte 8th, Gates 6th, Wayne 1st, Welker 3rd, or Dallas DST 16th. I am obvisiously going to keep Charles 5th. My league is only 10 teams so 30 keepers. I've had a 1st round pick every season, because every time I pick in the 1st round I end up with a 3rd round talent. Wayne is the best I've done and I've considering keeping him, but I could very easily get him again in the 1st or 2nd round (snake). Can't image how much worse 12 teams could be. I think I'm going to go with Blount, Charles, and Forte. Seems like the best value and I should be able to get most the others in about the same spot, except Dallas DST. I just realized that being at a book-end of a snake, I can inflate or deflate a players value between years. Example, I was thinking that to get Gates again (some I'd like to keep), I may have to pick him in the 5th round, but I could also take him in the 6th because my picks are back to back. Whoever else I take with these two picks would likely be a 6th round value and I could inflate his value decreasing the chance I keep him, but I'd be increasing the chance of me being able to keep Gates. I hope I get to take advantage of this little loop hole.
With QBs unless you got a really great value on someone great (like Vick last year or something) then it's not worth wasting a keeper on. Although Ryan in the 7th round surely won't happen again. Welker is a waste. DST a lot of people think are a waste to keep. I kept my Jets D last year and while they weren't as good as the year before, they still got the job done for me on most weeks. The only issue I have with Forte is the offense he plays in. Very pass heavy.
I decided to do MJD, White, & Blount. I wanted to do Felix Jones at 6th, but there's no way in hell I'd get the value of MJD at 12 whereas there's a chance that I could still take Jones in the 4th or 5th round.
I forgot to mention the D/ST and QBs are the highest scoring positions in this league. Odd isn't it? Forte works well in the Bears offense because he can catch. He produced very well for me and is very undervalued in the 8th round. In fact, it would be impossible for him to be overvalued unless he has a serious injury before my draft. Cutler tends to force the ball downfield instead of checking down, but a lot of that has to do with pressure, down, and distance. I'm hoping their O-Line performs better and I can get even better value out of Forte. Ryan and Eli will probably maintain the same rounds as most the other nine teams will likely have keepers at QB. Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Vick, Brees, Rivers, and Schaub will all be keepers. That leaves plenty of value with Ryan, Eli, Cutler, Freeman, Bradford, Stafford, Cassel, Romo, Roethelisberger, Flacco, and Kolb. Just have to make sure I don't overvalue them and miss out on the WRs I want.
